Just got this. What am I in for?

Never played the BFG edition but if it's basically the same as the original, a lot of really dark areas. I know the whole "Doom 3 is dark" meme is supposed to be a bad thing but I actually kind of liked it. It sort of forced you to utilize the few light sources aside from the flashlight you had available such as looking for enemies' silhouettes along small light strips, or tracking enemies based on sound or small glimpses of them in the light of gunfire.

Really really dark, although BFG (and a mod for the original) let's you use the flashight while shooting, making the game a little easier. It's an ok slow paced corridor shooter. Quake 4 and Prey are better corridor shooters in my opinion though, but Doom 3 is still worth playing once.

Awful 2 enemies on screen at a time shooter that has absolutely no sense of tension.

The worst handgun of any fps I've ever played and an environment that looks like Wallace & Grommet but only worse. Still better than Quake 4 though.

The worst Doom game, but also a decent game judged on its own merits.

Haven't played the BFG edition, but D3 had great atmosphere, design, horror theme, was visually impressive for its time and had some moments, but ultimatley wasn't a very good DOOM game at all. If you changed the name to something else or just forget about anything doom its a lot better that way. Gunplay is okay, but not great.
