Old Hunters DLC didn't help the first area is full of dog like creatures and hunters.
The Fishing Hamlet helps a little bit adding interesting looking enemies.

There's plenty of variety in the enemies, they're just spaced out really poorly. Later in the game instead of having the blood versions of the same crazed villagers they should have used some of the chalice enemies.

My first playthrough, a STR playthrough, I had no idea how to parry/do viscerals. I would just Holy Blade Smash then faster than they could hug me.

Second character, I decided I'd give SKL/Bloodtinge a shot, after reading about parrying. Feels good, mein naga. My one complaint is that frenzy keeps accumulating while doing the visceral, but they handout Sedatives like candy.

I love BB but I'd argue that a lot of the non-villager and beast enemies in BB are awful. The cainhurst ghosts and mensis pudgy men are a bore to fight because they're so fucking passive. Same with the snakes to a lesser extent. The tiny grubs are terrible enemies because their miniscule hitboxes mean your hits miss half the time. The giant mensis spider feels cheap because of its rapid attacks that clip through fucking everything. Nothing needs to be said for the winter lanterns.

Bloodborne is the only souls game i really like.
