I personally didn't hate it, the world itself was cool and the enemies all tugged on those "DINOSAWHS" feelings we developed as kids.
Shame it was essentially a mediocre Zelda with some rail shooting.

At this point most people just hate it because of the Jontron episode. It really isn't Rare's fault that Nintendo forced them to gut their own game and re-purpose it into a Star Fox game. If it was its own IP, people wouldn't have nearly as much of a hateboner for it.

I like it. But only because of my nostalgia for it. It has flaws but nothing glaring. The only big one is Tricky. And even then he's a remnant of the scrapped Dinosaur Planet game, he doesn't slow you down and he does help you in combat and puzzles. More importantly, he teleports so you don't have to escort.

It's a bad starfox game but by no means a bad game in general. If anything it's more Zelda than Starfox.

People like to throw around the word "mashing" but mashing A is literally all the combat is, whenever there is combat. Rest of the game is carrying barrels around and feeding your stupid dino pet and some bad platforming.

Story is completely throwaway. Bits flying in space are ok but they last like 10 seconds

It's not a great game, but it's not as downright horrible as a lot of people try and say it is. It's a game that is so incredibly and obviously rushed to hell that it shows, and for what they were able to do with it, especially with the looming buyout no doubt on everyone's minds, it's impressive what they managed to do with it.

No. It was a good game. And I say this as someone who was eagerly waiting for Dinosaur Planet and thought Star Fox was sacrosanct. It's probably one of the best Zelda clones of all time. The soundtrack and graphics were phenomenal for their time and it was probably the last genuinely good game Rare did.

Miyamoto literally just said "haha the male protagonist looks a bit like Fox McCloud" and simply gave them the option to repurpose the game into a Star Fox game. Rare was the one that decided to turn it into a Star Fox game because they felt the brand recognition would make it sell better.
