Great bosses and decent PvP if you can get creative with where you invade, keep it low level, and keep your weapons at a low upgrade.

If you can coast through the game under level 60 with +6 weapons, you should be fine

PvP is shit because of how broken rolls are, but those same broken rolls let you have good boss fights like the Dancer and Pontiff
There's no real pacing, no give and flow to any levels, every is packed with aggressive and oppressive enemies
40% of the game is bloodborne cut content, 40% is dark souls rehashing and 20% is actually good original content

Because of Dark souls 2's negative reception they went in too hard with the Dark Souls 1 references and content. Problem was that that From thought it was because the souls fanbase didn't like new things, when in reality we want new things of good quality. All the new elements Dark Souls 2 introduce setting and plot wise were poorly put together which is why people didn't like them, so they played it super safe with Dark Souls 3 to it's detriment. They didn't even go all in with the best Dark Souls 1 elements, the level design is the most linear souls game next to Bloodborne making replaying the game a nightmare because most of the shit a player would want is further away than ever before.

Dark Souls 3 is a masterpiece. What a breath of fresh air from that chink rip-off that was DaS2.

main hub is a recreation of the Demon's Souls main hub the Nexus. the two are very very similar.

the first main area of Lothric Castle is Boletarian palace, complete with red-eye knights. complete with dragons hanging around (bridge dragons first in DeS). when this area opens up later after the Dancer fight it gets even more blatant, and that final stretch to the Two Princes battle is copy of the intro to Boletaria, complete with skeleton knights hiding behind wooden barriers. that big wooden buggy that shows up from time to time also first appeared in DeS.

the gargoyle guys taking you and dropping you off is a thing that first happens in DeS. same with rolling skeletons, they first appear in DeS. the Stormruler special weapon that you use to kill a specific boss first appears in DeS as a special weapon used to kill a specific boss. Patches is also a mischievous presence in DeS and features heavily in DS3. the boss fight in the middle of the town where you fight alongside the onion knight is very much like the first boss fight of The Shrine of Storms, where you fight the same demon in the middle of a castle.

finally there is Irithyll Dungeon, an inverted copy of Tower of Latria. i say inverted cos you work your way down, and once you get to the Profane Capitol, you are fighting gargoyles on suspended walkways a la the end of the Tower of Latria level. DS3 re-created 3 areas from DeS, it's a stretch to say it does that many from DS1.

In a vacuum, second best Souls game next to Bloodborne.
If reality, if you played the games in order as they released, it's the worst or second-worse Souls game.

No nigger. DaS1 is unplayable today due to its MMO-tier AI. It became fucking ridiculous just cheesing backstab on everything. DaS3 has better enemy design, AI and fights. I loved DaS1 but DaS3 improves on it in almost every way.

Why didn't bloodborne just open the door to cathedral ward after cleric beast? Or let you go to yahargul earlier to make use of the door after darkbeast paarl? It would really help make the game feel less linear.

I liked it, but DaS1 is my favorite and will forever have a special place in my heart, still a great game and series though, I will be looking forward to that edgelord post-apocalyptic vampire anime dark souls they are making now.

Weapon Arts were a good concept but poorly executed.
Caster builds are just total shit.
Bosses are overall the best in the series.
Bosses were cinematic and hype.
The generally good bosses are easily exploitable due to being susceptible to parry, hard stun+critical, or simple hitstun.
Invasion areas are way too fucking big. Takes forever to find each other.
Hosts being able to resummon their phantoms right after they die is cancer.
Restoring estus charges on phantom kills was a shit idea.
FP was an awful idea.
Estus is too easy to use without getting punished.
Rolling has too many i-frames and costs too little stamina.
Parrying is too easy and too rewarding.
Straight swords and Greatswords are way overtuned.
UGS/GH weapons are terrible; cost too much stamina, slow as fuck, damage is pitiful, can easily be hitstun mid windup.
Netcode is still shit where relying on roll catching due to garbage hit detection on P2P connection is the only way to reliably kill or dash attacking with the WP for fleeing drinking roll spammers.
AoA was garbage except for last boss, who was also easily exploitable with backstabs.
RC was pretty good.
Covenants were shit.
Sidequests were fucked and poorly implemented.

I played BB after DS3 and holy shit. It's such a step backwards. BB honestly feels like a sequel to DS3 not the other way.

Even DS2 is much better
