if you aren't aware, almost none of the original Valve employees that made Half Life and other games no longer work there. They only have enough personnel to manage Steam and their current games (Dota, CSGO), not to mention smaller teams working on VR shit and other projects (Artifact).

They surely have the money, but they don't have the talent anymore. Why bother getting more talent when you make more money as a publisher than as a developer? The endgame of ALL businesses is to make money. Doesn't matter if you're a video game business, a food business, or a flower business. They aren't your friends. They're corporations that distribute products that you buy. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Too bad most people on /v/ will continue to buy.

So this won't get any replies but what in the hell was their plan with portal 2 anyway?

Did they seriously think microtransactions in a 2 hour coop mode were feasible? Did they intend to make a lot more coop stuff? PvP stuff?

Having trouble with reading comprehension again? Like I said, the benefits of having the tournaments have nothing to do with the random "novelty digital crap" which players get for watching. Stop arguing points I'm not making.

I'll repeat my point for the third time. The benefit of having the tournaments is the community that emerges around them. This brings together people with a similar interest (the game) and PROVIDES ADDITIONAL ENTERTAINMENT. (Which is the purpose of playing or watching any sport or videogame)
