Why do '90s fps games have such comfy aesthetic?
>i want to build a level in half life
>no fucking good tutorials at all and hammers gui is trash
half life sucks
>>386758724
Come on man, I did that shit when I was 13.
>>386758724
>no good tutorials
Dude I learned that shit at fucking 12 and its so fucking simple. Goldsrc mapping >>>>> Source mapping. Source is pure cancer.
fpsbanana, go look at tutorials.

How did you get so many buzzwords in single question?
>>386758862
i missed out on it and i want to do it besides making shitty doom maps. Hammers gui hasn't aged well and theres no good tutorials at all.
>>386758724
Hammer is pretty usuable desu. 3d modelling there isn't like 3dsmax or Blender, but it's workable. Start by building something simple and build that, test out how it plays, what compiles or doesn't. You'll get the hang.

>games is a buzzword
They simply spent more time on them and had very little references or share holders telling them to do things a certain way.
Even indie games are shit because the people making them are fucking retarded assholes who only want to make goofy shit
>>386758938
I am looking at the half life section and i can't find any basic tutorials to get started on. the only fucking "thing" i can make is hammer is a big box with nothing in it
>>386758564
Simple mapping.
The maps are simple and with pleasant textures.
Nowadays it's a fuckfest.
>>386759192
>everyone I don't agree with is /r/eddit
That's mentality only a Redditor could have
>>386758564
they kept it simple and designed levels for people with average iq
>>386758564
higher framerates are easier on the eyes
>>386758564
Lets see:
>No overue of fucking bloom
>Actual realistic color patterns and not "ralistic" patterns like Brown/Grey in every simgle game ( Thx Cod )
>60fps on Pc
>No Chromatic abomination
>No Motion Blurr
AESTHETIC

if you know how to setup entity
you can basically create a custom game mode from a map
>>386759386
>higher framerates are easier on the eyes
better for gameplay but not easier on the eyes at all, remember when they attempted 48 frames in movies?
>>386758564
>vending machines in games
I don't know why but I always love this
>>386759254
Search for Sven co-op map making guides instead they'll guide you through the basics of the hammer editor.

I did one too when I was 16. It was a shitty Counterstrike 1.6 AIM map. I remember the hardest part was importing a custom texture, shich was a pic of a friend making a stupid face, in a secret area.
It was more of a private easter egg than anything, since you'd have to push 3 barely-visible buttons in the right order to access the room.
Friend's reaction during out first game was priceless though.

Sorry about the interface.
>>386760220
I'd like to see different framerates used in short films or experimental stuff but it will probably never really be accepted by a general audience or be appropriate for every film
>>386760507
the fuck
The 90s were comfy and lazy, now we have to pay a lot of debts.
>>386758564

more vending machines pls
>>386760507
I remember that game being trashed in reviews. Also I've seen a gameplay video recently and it looked really generic until the player reached some trigger that unleashed a horde of skeletons with chainsaws.
>>386760729
It's a passable shooter, just nothing special. The skeletons are awesome, though.
video game food always makes me hungry

Objectively correct OP. But I think we shouldn't exclude the early 00s era as well for also providing some legit cozy settings with slightly better graphics.

How was Splinter Cell able to so thoroughly BTFO mgs when it came to gameplay?
>>386763148
Splinter Cell:
>fresh slate
>based off James Bond/Jason Bourne
>emphasis on dynamic lighting
>utilized Western dual stick control scheme
>Western style humor mixed with gritty realism
Metal Gear:
>long spanning series that has roots in 2D
>transition to 3D has identity issues, tries to keep 2D gameplay
>takes them until 2006 to finally figure out dual stick controls
>zany Japanese story and characters
>shit graphics because gook loyalty demanded they stick to the objectively worst console of 6th gen, PlayStation 2

Salute, bro.
>>386764530
nice insult, but can you answer my question?
>>386764254
it means that it put you there in a world that you would like to live in. For those of us who were playing these games at that time, it was the first time we were experiencing that feeling. Not many FPS games that came out post 2000's (or whatever) did a good job of stimulating that feeling, again.Disclaimer: I'm sure there's some exceptions to my opinion because I don't keep up on every FPS that comes out.
>>386764254
not him, but atmosphere might be a better word.
