It's a mission based open world game with a focus on mobility for your powers. Stuff like the open world Spiderman games, Infamous, Crackdown etc. If you like those, it's likely you would like Gravity Rush.

The movement is about giving you full control of your movement in 3D space, so it feels fucking great to just move around freely. You can stand on anything, sideways or upside down, slide around 90 degree angles, fly under architecture etc.

As someone who loves mobility in games, and loves open worlds based on them, it's my favourite in the genre, but that's for multiple reasons including the gameplay and more (the music, the setting and the architecture, the visual style etc).

Basically, it's not entirely clear.

If Raven is half of Kat/made from half of Kat's soul/whatever the hell, then Xii was most likely Kat's guardian as well as Dusty

Alternatively, Dusty was SUPPOSED to have wings, the same way Kai's stag had wings. Maybe when the split with Raven occurred, Kat's guardian was split into two, hence why Raven has winged animal and Kat doesn't.

Honestly, that's where GR2 disappointed me the most. The Franco-Belgian inspirations were mostly gone, the Nevi lost their spookiness, shielding themselves with rocks instead of bone. Being able to pick up and toss humans also felt really jarring. The rift planes felt very Disney (especially the hopping from bubble to bubble one).

I still loved the exploration, the world and the side quests but it felt like it lost a lot of its charm and identity compared to the first.

The game is a little underwhelming. The combat is shallow and the story can be summed up with "Things happen. Why? because fuck you". This is especially true for the first game. I'm still playing through 2 so maybe things will pay off, but it doesn't look like it.

The most fun I've had with this game is running around collecting the upgrade gems. But other games do collectathons better.

LOD is severe, causing massive texture and model pop in. So severe that if you go fast enough you can quite easily end up in what should be the furthest distance models (to the point they sometimes aren't even fully textured). I once landed near Vendecentres central park with only the ground and buildings lowest poly models loaded.

I think it's a fair trade. The visuals are god damn amazing IMO, the amount of detail in the world is something I love so much, but the pop in is common/strong enough that it's noticable a few times in a normal playthrough. If they needed that degree of LOD to maintain the look detail they went with then I'm fine with what they went for.

My favorite thing isn't even the world, it's how GR2 did the feel of shifting so much better. The way you tumble and shit when you're shifting, you roll left/right when adjusting and adopt a more flying pose when you accelerate are all things that weren't in GR1
