Nier and Nier Automata both have very touching, subtle love stories. Especially in Automata as it serves to reinforce one of the main themes of the game, longing for something lost and being unable to cope with it..
Thankfully Taro decided to stop being a dick this time.

I'm sure I've played plenty of games focused on love but I can't name any right now. However there are plenty of games which, while not focused on romance, have great romance, either minor or important to the plot.

Planescape Torment : the Deionnarra story is really sad
Baldur's Gate 2 : most romances are touching
Final Fantasy : many have a main character driven by love
Grandia 2 : I fucking loved that love triangle
Shovel Knight : Plague Knight has a great forbidden love
LISA : does the love for your daughter counts?
Brothers a Tale of Two Sons : and brotherly love?

FUCK no. They are probably the most obnoxious romances i ever saw in games. Shit like that is why i agree with Sawyer saying that simple masturbatory romantic subplots are garbage and that games should either not include romantic subplot at all or flesh it out way better than that.

Odin Sphere has 3 good romantic subplots.

Trails in the Sky feels like a shounen anime by the most part but Estelle/Joshua is one of the best things about it.

Visas romance from KOTOR2 is probably the best written romance of that kind.

I honestly don't remember any other love story being unveiled in such a way and hitting so hard.
Each route added new layer to their relationships and entirety of route C was a fucking emotional roller-coaster ending with a revelation that turned all their interactions upside down.
