It was effective at disrupting and routing lightly armored infantry but a full armored knight could look like a hedgehog but he would still be fine and uninjured. And the longbowmen weren't "freaks" they were professional soldiers trained and disciplined with slightly deformed skeletons due to a lifetime use.
Most of the Knight casualties in Agincourt was due to prisoner executions, and Crecy due to the undisciplined and uncoordinated french army.

They didn't shoot 10 every 2 seconds. Its was the thickness of the arrow volley not the rate of fire. Archery was a precise tool in battle very very rarely are the archers told to loose at will, they'd run out of arrows. Arrow Volleys are precisely timed and coordinated.
