Either start with AC4 and ignore the old games, or start with AC1 and play in release order. Each sequel adds in new shit, so jumping in at 3 will just leave you in over your head. 4 is exempt since it's an entirely different game from the old styled ones


Also play front mission 3 instead, it's better

1-3, 4/4A and V/VD are all pretty different beasts in terms of how 'heavy' your AC is, so you could do release order for any of those divisions and be fine. If you don't have time to do release order I'd say 3, 4A and VD are the easiest to get into as solo titles. 3 in particular has a shitload of spinoffs that continue its story but it might mess with your experience with the 1-2 series of games.

Ps2 gen games are fuckin great.

Psx games lack some polish but they are ok I guess. Im not sure if they can hook you to play the whole the series.

I started from ac 2, kept plaing in release order, then finished the psx games.

I only played LR portable and honestly its not the worst thing in the world but the lack of another pair of shoulder buttons makes the game a lot more awkward to play. The changes they made to the game itself also made LR much harder than it was before especially the Zinaida fights. I don't know about the other portable releases but honestly I highly suggest avoiding LR portable if you can. Its playable but if you can play/emulate regular LR I would suggest doing that instead

Forgot to mention that Ninebreaker isn't really essential to play since it lackes story based mission mode. The game consists of fighthing against other AC:s on arena and beating different trials. Feels like an hardcore fan expansion to me.
I'd say you can skip it.

All of the psp games are on ps2 too. Wouldn't recommend playing them normally on the console since psp lacks some buttons. But If you plan on emulating them and your pc does not run psx2 properly, sure. Worth a try.
