Downloading Danganronpa 2. Thought the first one was mediocre and only really enjoyed, I think, the 2nd to last case, the one after the suicide case. Is Danganronpa 2 a massive improvement? I hated the ending to the first game.

Also would recommend Ace Attorney, 999/VLR, Steins;Gate, and Ghost Trick OP.

DR2 is a massive improvement in every way over DR1

Zero Escape was written by the same person who did Ever17, except you get an escape game instead of chicken sandwiches. They're pretty nice but they get worse as the franchise goes on.

I read S;G straight after Higurashi so I was slightly disappointed by it. It's probably better than I remember it being. The anime is fine enough, although you miss 2 really good scenes in particular while skipping 1 terrible arc the anime omitted. If you really, really like time travel you could do worse.

The first game is very good. The characters are all really good and they're all used well in the good routes.

That said there is some mediocre stuff.
Also nearly all the smut is bad enough to skip through. Momoyo and Yukie's routes being high at the top.

The sequel is not as good. Less actually fun stuff and a lot more smut. Which is even worse because the translators cared a whole fucking lot less the second time around.
It adds some great girls but they just aren't as compelling as the originals.

I've played and watched, the VN is obviously better.
But the Anime still communicates Okabe's character okay.
It's a good anime. It just can't touch the near masterpiece that the VN is.

That said, one of the VN's weak points are the alternate endings you mentioned.

Luka's is pure trash. Cuntris' shows a neat consequence of fucking the timeline that hard, but is otherwise worthless.
Suzuha's is okay but nonsensical, using its elements in the main story rather than a side route would have done a better job of not being silly and more deeply exploring Obake's tribulations.
The final ending but not true final ending served very little purpose and it's kinda awkward to think back to it after the true end.

Also while the focus of the show obviously switches, with the exception of the finale of moeka's route, the VN never quite hits the same dark notes as the hacking earlier on.
Not that it needed to be more dark and it still went exceptionally well, having to accept the problems of mediocre characters midway is definitely a very low point compared to the start and the end.

Combination of superb music with a good story that still has stupidly hilarious moments.

Grisaia is average in a lot of ways but the enthusiasm and what appears to be legitimate enjoyment of the voice actors meshes well with the fun writing. Outside of the girl's routes it's pure entertainment.

Dies is a real fucking slow burn, I honestly don't blame you for dropping it. It's definitely not for everyone unless you like Chuunige. Until I I finished Kei's final chapter I found it a slog. If you value your time keep it dropped, if not you might want to give it another shot. My opinion of it changed for the better when I was reading Marie's route.

That's what makes them so good though. 10 minutes fights that translate to 2 minutes in an anime are godawful most of the time. Big, grandiose, long fights like in Ippo (anime) or Dies Irae (VN) are my jam.

I really really liked S;G, Remember11 and Danganronpa 2 (1 was good too, but I liked 2 more). I really liked Ever17 too at the time but it was my first VN years ago and I get the impression it's one of those things that would be really underwhelming if I reread it today.

Chaos;Head started strong but went downhill with time.

Biggest disappointments are muvluv and Saya no Uta by far. Muvluv may get good 80 hours in, but I don't care. I read several hours of the first one and it was one of the shittiest VNs I've ever read.
Saya was retarded and edgy for the sake of edginess. Felt like many scenes were super forced just because MUH EDGE and the characters were all mentally retarded.
