No the retro engine isn't perfectly 1:1 with the originals and most people with half a brain should realize that considering they aren't exactly ports, but they're damn near close anyways with qol improvements like widescreen support and improving things like 2 and CD's special stages. As for your clip it's not like any game is without their bugs and it's not like I haven't been completely caught in walls in 3K before. Ironically the only game without a taxman remaster.

I think I have my opinion on the series as a whole nailed down now:

CD = S&K > 2 > 1 = 3

This might seem like a very unconventional ranking and it is, but I have my reasons. First, I will say I feel that CD and S&K are on par with each other because both excel at very different things. I love CD for its music, its visuals, and some of the focus on pure physics play that some of the zones have. 3&K on the other hand, while lacking the technological punch to deliver on the music and visuals that CD has, still has some pretty great-looking levels in its own right and a few unforgettable soundtracks to its name. Beyond that though, the pure speedy ability-based platforming combined with its top-tier zones sets S&K clearly above the other Genesis titles. Sonic 2 sits just below it, and though I feel its highs are not as high as CD's or S&K's, Sonic 2 has admirable consistency of quality throughout and managed to be everything a sequel should be. I would say 1 and 3 are equal in the way that CD and S&K are, but again for different reasons. Sonic 1 does not have any of the bells and whistles of its successors, but instead has concise and mellow platforming throughout, which is a joy in its own right. 3 on the other hand has the same gameplay as S&K but is brought down by having pound-for-pound the weakest zone lineup of all the games I feel. All that being said, S&K would NOT be as great as it is without being propped up by some elements from Sonic 3, so that puts the two games in an odd position. I do feel ranking the games together as 3&K complicates things too much, given the disparity between them.

The darks and lights on their models have actually been corrected to how they would appear in outdoor lighting and Knuckles' hair reflects light how it should since his head is one flowing shape instead of the wavy look his original sprite implies. It's less that they're washed out and more that due to using modern color sensibilities, most of their model is of the "light" shade while their true colors that you're used to in the earlier more primitive colored models are the midtones.

Hey guys, I was watching some gameplay videos this morning of the new special stages in Sonic Mania, and I noticed that I was feeling a bit nauseous during the sphere special stage. I started comparing to the older special stage and I quickly realized that the new one has a much more distorted and warped fisheye lens effect.

I quickly made an infographic to show what I meant.

its coming to PS4, XB1, Switch, and Steam. every version will have a unique feature besides the xb1 version.

PC will get mods in a couple months to a year (however long it takes the community to learn how to mod with this engine)

PS4 will get Share Play if you have ps plus (basically local multiplayer but played across the internet with someone on your friends list, using their controller as the 2nd one.)


Switch will obviously have the portability aspect.

XB1 gets... nothing.
The PS4 version gets the game at midnight EST, aug 15.

Steam gets the game at about 1 pm EST, August 15 ive heard.

I am walking down a grassy field when suddenly a high pitched swirling noise catches my attention. Where is it coming from? My left. My right. In front of me. Behind me! In five seconds I have realized that it is coming in every direction. I close my eyes and focus my senses. After what seems like forever in the pitch black darkness cast down upon my vision by my own eyelids, I open my eyes. My instincts have been honed and my senses have been sharpened thanks to my quick meditation. My eyes can now see in 600 frames per second and alas I can catch the glimpse of a blue blur circling me. This is what is making that accursed noise! The swirling becomes even more high pitched and I can almost swear that the sound is digging into my eardrums straight into my brain like a dentist drill on steroids. The creature was gradually decreasing the radius of its circle and is closing in on me for the kill. It is now or never. I reach into my pocket and subtlely arm myself with my weapon. In a flash the creature strikes! Amidst the peak of the high pitched swirling it screams "YOU'RE TOO SLOW!" but I was in fact, not. Using my samurai instincts and reactions I raise my weapon outwards and the swift but foolish creature runs its face right into it. Its nose hits dead on my Pokeball's button and it automatically expands and swallows Sonic whole. Typically Pokeballs would fail against capturing non-weakened creatures but my strong fingers kept the contraption tight. It took only 2 shakes before Sonic submitted to my iron grasp. He is mine now. As I let out a smirk and patted myself on the back I sent Sonic out from his new prison cell. "Ey what the fuck man" he said, rubbing his nose which was red from the impact. "Whattafuck are you going to do to me??" he asks. I walk up to him, grabbed his dick and leaned against his ear. "I'm going to fuck you," I tell him. Then I crushed his penis by accident and blood splattered everywhere like a tomato festival packed with a lot of tomatoes.

Maybe among the unlockables you earn thru the bluespheres medals is the ability to play thru extra zones.

These zones are also from the older games, but they are on their absolute original formats, no new gimmicks, no remixed music and no bosses, these zones are not the same as the revisited zones in story mode and are just usable in time attack and competition for added replay value and leaderboard bragging rights.

There's still object programming, layout testing, making sure everything is where it's supposed to be, adding the zone specific badniks from programming to art assets.
