City Building Thread
Hope you're not being a shitty mayor, mayor
why do city builders only have like 5 building designs. everything is copy pasted.
>>386712320
Modernism. Also why do that when you can milk the community
>>386712320
Because that's what most cities look like IRL if you look at them from high in the sky.
>>386712424
>Milk the community
Fuckers are still coming out with expensive DLC.
>>386712807
>aka milking the community
I still don't see how that disaster dlc was worth 15
>>386712848
It wasn't. I would pay five dollars at most per pack. They add so little to the game.

>not pirating every DLC by pdx
>>386713264
I never said I bought them.
>>386713340
Only bought Night Life then realized I never used anything from it
>>386713264
How do you even go about pirating the expansions for C:S? All I've seen on the net are the full game with all the expansionsthat I can't be arsed to DL b/c mobile connection. Does this require me to deal with private tracker autism?
>>386713742
Hol up
Am I autistic if I'm not seeing some simple shit there?
>>386714004
I dunno, even the state had trouble keeping to my autistic rules.
>tfw too dumb for Cities
how the fuck do i play this holy shit
I'm 99% sure many of you are autistic enough to be up to the challenge, fix this without pissing everyone off and taking 40 years, 9/10 city planners get this wrong!
>>386714416
>always wanted to be a civil engineer
>see this
Not so sure anymore. Definitely don't think I have the brain capacity for street design
>>386712223
Dont fall for the grid meme.
>>386714642
I'll take the roundabout meme for $500 alex
>>386714642
Gotcha fampai.
>>386714642
diagnal road down the middle with 3 stoplights
>>386712223
Is that game as good as Sim City 4?
>>386715006
the only bad thing was the traffic being totally shit, but now with the stoplights it became quite better, you have more control over the shit traffic, and it becames pretty good.
But.... no Magnasanti is possible.
>>386712223
Anything for the PS4?
>>386715137
I haven't played skylines since it first came out
what did all the money grabbing dlc add and what's the biggest difference I'd notice since launch?
>>386715006
No. No city builder is as good as Sim City 4. Skylines is woefully shallow in comparison.
>>386715158
Cities Skylines (soon iirc), it's also available for the xbone
I own Cites XL plat on steam somehow, probably a gift
should I just pirate C:S instead? The only builder I liked to play in the past was the anno series
>>386713742
Yeah I don't know how you get around not using frontage roads. I cave.
>>386715247
If you have the orignal pirate the complete pack, its what the game should have been, but you know, 2007+ business models of game releases.
>climates (snowfall)
>day night cicle (snowfall)
>traffic lights (lastest one)
>some new maps and some stuff for peds (cant remember)
and i think im missing something.
>>386714642
Literally nothing you can do other than diverting the roads to a new place where you built a new interchange, and then switching onto the new roads before demolishing all this.
>>386715247
Jackshit. They've only really added eyecandy.
>>386715578
>>386715981
what's this stoplights thing?
Did they (or modders) ever fix major traffic bugs?
>>386713742
>San Antonio
This could actually be a high dept guy trying to unfuck the mess they've been building for decades.
Can I safely pirate the DLC if I bought it on steam? I stopped playing it a long time ago and want to see if I can get back into it
>>386716202
Togglable and schedulable stoplights and road priorities have been a mod since forever. They've implemented it as a core feature with one of the DLCs, but their version is actually worse.
>>386716202
Lol anon, they fixing?
Nope, you have to fix the traffic yourself.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB3cihEF9YQ
>>386716454
>San Antonio
But that's the DFW area anon..
>>386716656
I saw six flags and rolled the dice. Not gonna lie.
>>386716461
The steam pirated versions most of the times has the steam part of it hacked so it dosent need a modified hacked whatever steam, run just like it was a GoG version.
Block any outgoing connection in the firewall to any *.exe inside the game if you still feel insecure about it.
>>386716461
I'd assume so, works for every other game.

Here's what the city did, for those who cannot read French, "Fermeture Complet jusqu'en" roughly translates to "Fuck you, use our shitty, overpriced public transit"
>>386717103
oh and "1 voie sur 2" means "suck my pequiste dick, sit in traffic"
>>386717103
How good is this game and how good are city builders in general? I'm trying to recreate a super accurate square mile of my city in Sketchup, and add buildings in the empty areas to make a vision of what the city could look like 20-30 years down the line.
if I want to play an accessible city builder that is still fun what should I start with
>>386717518
I don't like city builders I just like complaining about Montreal's corrupt, degenerate transit infrastructure in citybuilder threads, looking for answers from anointed autists that the city will not provide.
>>386712223
Traffic in the game was retarded because it was made by hipsters who think cars are the devil, but other than that it was comfy.
It's possible to make logic gates so I wonder if someone could make a computer.
>>386717627
>accessible
What does this even mean in this context?
You can't have trouble with a city builder unless you're legitimately retarded, and retards shouldn't be playing video games.
>>386717774
I meant relatively easy to not fuck up but it sounds like I should just go for it
>>386717943
You can just cheat money in both simcity or cities skylines if you feel like shit is becoming detroit.
>>386717730
You can try /n/, there is usually an urban planning general thread in addition to train and bicycle threads. I used to frequent that board but haven't been in a while, it's one of the slowest moving boards on 4chan.
>>386718083

>realistic highway system
And it is utter shit in game, with huge traffic jams stretching for half the map.
RL actually looks like it was painted by a noob dicking around with Cities Skyline for 5 minutes before he got bored.
I have 2200 workshop assets..
>>386712223
question from a genre noob
when I build up my starting areas, the best idea is to use simple two lane streets off the highway, but I can never upgrade to 4 lane without nuking half my buildings doing so. Is there a better way?
El Presidente is back.
>>386718403
Don't be afraid of puking away buildings. This isn't real life, you can fuck up half your city in an instant and redraw it in the next in a radically different fashion and everything will be peaches.
Your biggest hurdle is trying to unfuck traffic jams because game AI is stupid as hell.
>>386713742
>>386718259
Yep, you can also just do a 4-5 stack interchange too. That leftover land could have better uses too, most of the shittiest interchanges take up huge amounts of land, and only have 2 levels because land then was cheaper to buy vs building flyovers, and they were designed to handle the traffic loads of the 70s and 80s.
>>386718565
How good are Tropico 3-5? I loved the first one and didn't like the second much.
>>386717518
They're fun, if you're into city building/logistics kind of stuff. It's a niche genre, so it's hard to tell you that you'd enjoy it unless you already enjoy this kind of game.
If you do like city builders, you'll like skylines and simcity 4. They're the two big ones.
>>386713742
I'm ready to be mayor of fuck town.
>>386718607
I can see my house!
>>386718607
Is it a new thing for cities to integrate trees and foliage so heavily into the city layout?
My own town has trees all over the place like this too. They even went out of their way to put trees in the lane dividers and all along the road, which I think was more because it helps reduce traffic noise than anything to do with environmentalism.
>>386719161
That's Brooklyn, NYC
We have trees on every block
I'll assume Banished is a city builder but now that I have a stable food supply, how do I get my population over 100?
People keep dying of old age.
>>386719323
I had this same problem in Banished. I started killing them off younger.
>>386718759
3 = 4 > 5 but they're similar with minor tweaks/graphical updates and i enjoyed them all
Working on new on and off ramps.
for some reason I never planned for sidewalks and overpasses, pedestrians are causing horrible traffic for me just by jaywalking everywhere
>>386716884
>implying I said anything of the sort
>>386719576
>3 = 4
wot
3 was shorted a lot of features and buildings. not to mention DLC add-ons (which dont really matter as much now since the DLC is usually included in sales).
>>386719323
Getting your population over 100 is super easy, just build a shitload of houses at once, will cause a population boom.
The hard thing is doing it slowly while also keeping it stable once you're above it.
I fucking love Cities Skylines but I'm so god damn bad at it.
Also the mod that forces traffic to prefer parking lots and stops cars from disappearing is so fucking great. Called Rush Hour I think.
Man I should reinstall, haven't played since disasters came out.
Doe vehicles in Skylines still enter the turning lane even when they aren't turning for 5kms leaving six lane roads heavily congested because only one is actually used?
>>386718348
how does your game even load at that point
>>386720707
Barely. Game runs at an average 9 - 16fps with an overclocked i5-6600k
>>386721276
figured as much
>>386713742
Since nobody actually answered your question, all of the DLC is automatically downloaded and installed, on steam anyways. All you literally have to do is change an api file or two and you can play pirated DLC even with a legit steam copy. creamAPI or something along those lines
Anyone played Kingdoms and Castles?
Looks like it could be fun.
>Rise of the Middle Kingdom crashes on "loading feng shui"
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Also, who here remember CivCity Rome?
>>386712223
>you'll never be autistic enough to do this
Legit feels bad. Also I love city building games but I am atrocious at them.
