Yeah, nothing beats 720/1080p upscaled to a higher resolution. It's no different than someone buying a 720 TV that's like 60 or so inches big and just having the video stretched on it.

Why are you saying it like I'm against it? I'd be glad to see 4k stop moving towards the standard at a semi-snails pace, but it isn't. More and more people are buying 4k TVs for just watching purposes but it still hasn't come close to the amount of 1080s in people's homes right now. As for the gaming side of things; Nvidia is just being a jew about their GPU releases so the GTX1080 and ti are the only ones truly reliably able to play almost all games at 4k with somewhat stable 60FPS. This means it's only a standard to a smaller amount of PC players than you think. 1440 is almost the standard, and I mean like one year to be definitive when it comes to the PC gaming community.

I'm fully aware of that, but they've been barely doing it for a decade since AMD just settled with a business tactic of "Let's just keep up". They no longer have to try and that's why we got massive fuck you upgrades like the 980 costing about 200 more (don't remember the exacts) than the 970 for only about 12% of a performance boost, then came the ti being only about 100 or so for 25% of a performance. They don't have to care. We'd have 1440 as a standard 2-3 years ago, and 4 making way for the 8k standard if they tried like they used to. They've become the apple of the PC gaming industry.

Yeah, they only limit the supply and demand of a major Pascal line release so all the major re-sellers immediately buy out ALL their stock, so they can sell them for 200 dollars more than their suggested price. It not only fucked over buyers but it made sure Nvidia's starting sales were sold out. Even 1060's were getting sold out, when they normally wouldn't, and that happened only because 1070s and 1080s were scarce.
