Mania team is put in charge of Sonic and Sonic Team becomes Puyo Puyo Team. Eventually we may get a proper 3D Sonic with physics and momentum.

I love Sonic but Mania will be outsold in a big way by Forces more than likely, so it will be the last good 2D game we ever get.
I don't want to see this any more so it can just end with this.

Hopefully into its own sub franchise where 2D Sonic continues to evolve and take hints from the oldschool games while making the experience fresh and new.

Nobody could have thought just HOW god damn new Green Hill and Chemical Plant could get but seeing their footage of their Act 2s is a bright indicator that the designers are filled with potential we still have to see fully fleshed out.

I wanna see how nuts and unique we can see a brand new 2D Sonic series can become with the same minds that gave us Studiopolis and that leaked cathedral stage.

Plus, it's really nice for once: seeing so many people (those that grew up on Genesis games and those who didn't) genuinely happy and excited talking about Mania whether they played it or not.

It's like we're back to how things used to be (as tropey as that sounds to say) and god damn it I've missed this feeling.

If it sells well enough Iizuka has already said that we will probably see more games in a similar vein. Which means instead of classic stages, since they were worried that without them, it wouldn't sell. It means we will get a completely original game and the 'classic' series will just run congruently with the 3d series.

As mentioned before, you can't get away with a Grass -> Desert -> Ice -> Jungle -> etc. formula with Sonic. Zones have to stand out in theme and aesthetic. Not to mention a Sonic level is way bigger and has more nuances than a Mario level.

By adding new characters and play styles? By bringing back old plots and characters that people liked? Remember Blaze? Obviously also that they wouldn't be trying to make it a yearly release. As long as they can give us interesting stage gimmicks, cool characters and an overall solid experience, then I'm content.

Also, I didn't like NSMB because new Nintendo's style just feels too sterile. From the levels to the power ups, it is just bland and that is from the first game on the DS up to 3d World.

Or at the very least, take concepts that worked from it and do it better. Also, they seem to be setting up with Forces that "Classic" Sonic isn't just the past anymore. He's simply another version of him. This means that Classic can form it's own continuity and identity away from the 3d games.

Yes it would. What is classic Sonic? It's levels where you try to get to the end goal, avoiding robots, collecting rings. Each character can play like Sonic with little differences, thus the stages can share designs, while also allowing for unique paths. Obviously this gets harder as more characters become playable, but it's not like they have to have 10 characters or even that the different ways they play absolutely require a completely separate zone.

For example, if Amy is in Mania and she uses her Hammer like she does in Advance, she doesn't really need her own routes.

Classic doesn't have to just be Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, that kind of thinking is silly. I mean, what about the Chaotix, they were a 32X game and still part of the Classic era of the games. Why can't they return?

Modern Sonic will forever be in Boost play style. This is SEGA's wish and if you have more characters to play as then just Sonic, they will have gimmicks to set them apart or play nothing like Sonic at all. Actually, the chance of another playable character besides Sonic in the 3d games is pretty much zero these days ever since SEGA took fan advice that "Sonic has too many friends" and that people didn't want to play treasure hunts with Knuckles or whatever. So now you get Sonic with whatever gameplay gimmick (Werehog, Wisps) they feel like adding next.
