Should have ended with 3. It was perfectly suited to be a trilogy

Say what you will about MGS 4 but it was a beautiful conclusion to the series.
Don't even mind Peace Walker and Rising cause they are almost unrelated and can be enjoyed without connecting it to the overall story.
