No way dude, character development in 2 is much better. Everyone is so one-sided in 3. SR3 sets up the characters for development but that never happens. The whole basis of SR3 was supposed to be, "Fuck we're sellouts now, let's return to our roots." But that doesn't happen, the characters are the same throughout the entire game.
You want some real character development? Look at Gat throughout the Ronin storyline of SR2.

To be honest, the only true great game in the franchise is 2. They struck the perfect balance between serious and silly there. Not being full serious business mode but not going overboard with the silly stuff, allowing the game to have some truly memorable parts.

I loved SR2 because I played it right after the "trying too hard to be realistic and gritty" GTAIV and loved it because it was a callback to when GTA was just over-the-top sandbox fun.

I'll admit, I'm not a salty gamer by nature, but the Saints Row series is a sore point for me.

I think it was because I really hyped myself up for S3, as a continuation of S2's story. I wanted to go after Dex and Ultor and all the drama and shit that would come from it.

To have the story, the setting, and even the tone just abandoned to service lolsorandom normie humour broke something in me.
S2 is still my favourite crime sandbox, can't even play it now because my 360's started shitting up and Volition won't let it go backwards compatible. Probably because they're worried nobody will play Agents of Mayhem. Which they won't.

I'm legitimately hoping they end up continuing the Saints story properly from 2 onwards. Just have the Boss wake up for an absolutely crazy party the night after the second game ends, when they take over the city, make one throwaway line about having a weird dream and then getting on with it.

Childish I know, but this is my Mass Effect 3, I'm perma-salty about Saints. It's a cold sort of salty, I don't rage or gnash my teeth I just seeth, quietly.

SR2 didn't do anything for me. Been playing Grand Theft Auto since GTA2 and SR2 just felt like the same thing yet again.
SR3 was okay but outside of the actual missions nothing special.
SR4 I loved the hell out of. I enjoyed the powers and how they went full retard. Was fun and that's all I cared.
Gat out of Hell was the same fucking city yet again. And using the side content as story missions is getting really old.
Agents of Mayhem I'm going to avoid the fuck out of. Looks retarded but I might pick it up when it appears in the humble bundle for a few bucks.

That said, they really need to focus on enemy difficulty. If there were agents hunting you down matrix style in SR4 for overtly using your powers, and they were actually difficult to fight, game would have been 10x better.

They could easily have gone with the plot that they already have for SR3, just don't abandon the things that made SR2 good. I kinda like the idea of the Saints selling out and becoming soft before getting fucked up by an up-and-coming gang. It could have been set in Stilwater where the entire game kinda becomes a reverse of the previous 2, you start off in control of the city and the first half of the game is your entire gang fucking up and getting fucked up until you lose almost everything. Then the Boss and his cohorts get their shit together, get hard again and start taking back the city before a final showdown. Great opportunity to introduce some sort of turf war system where territories could be taken and lost via dynamic gameplay instead of being purely mission-based. Money would also play a bigger role since you start off owning the entire city and almost everything in the game before losing it all. Money is used to purchase the shit you've had a taste for in the first half of the game that you gradually lost.

Yes. It's an open world hero shooter like TF2 or Overwatch but with no coop or pvp. You just pick 3 of the, I dunno, 11 heroes then go out into the world and play. You switch between the 3 picked heroes like you're swapping weapons. Each hero has their own stats and abilities and shit. Check out the gameplay, it looks boring as shit.
