I'm still iffy on the whole GOUGI system, but it does actually turn out to be balanced then it's fine. 10 characters isn't a lot, which makes the balance of the game more important. I think how they are treating it on the business side is very smart. Hopefully the game really is fun to play.

Funny, I remember clearly when the Street Fighter EX games were a thing in the PS1 days nobody liked the games, everybody would rather play the Marvel crossover or Alpha 3, now all of a sudden everybody is excited for a new EX game, I don't get it.

They even joked about cross over characters like Akira after the chat proposed it. I'm glad they have low expectations with the project & are listening to feedback. Esports are weird. A competitive community will never not be good, because it's just people who are passionate about the game. I don't even think having a circuit is bad. It hasn't particular hurt Tekken or Killer Instinct. NRS community operates in a strange way, but it sorta works for them. Except Arika is working their ass off to make this game fun & putting whatever little money that have into making the game a reality.

I hope this project actually goes will for Arika. They've already come out and said they don't really plan for this game to be profitable and they're doing it just because they want to make games again. I don't like the idea of only 10 characters, but if they only charge like $30-$40 dollars for the game I'll pre-order as soon as I can. I hope can make this passion product really fun.

A lot of these games, some more so than others, are broken as fucking hell but they reach their communities because of that and is the reason they tend to stand out more than the esports games of these days.

Personally I can't stand esport-type games these days because they focus on gameplay balance in basically what I consider a prison. Fun stuff just gets taken away and I feel gameplay just ends up regressing and what you get is boring arenas.

The problem with very unbalanced games is actually from a modern day business perspective. All of those games require a high level of competency. For example a lot of spectacle fighter/ hack-n-slash/beat em up type games also struggle with less than stellar review scores. But the people who love those games are also the only ones who are any good at them. There is a difficult line to find between getting the player to say, "man I suck", instead of, "this game sucks."

Yeah, low budget + passion hopefully means good result. They're basically in the same area SNK was in with XIV and that turned out well. They've got a lot to prove so they're not going to want to fuck it up.

I'm normally not down with guest characters but throwing some KoF/FF/AOF characters or two in there would be cool. SNK seems to always be pretty generous about lending their characters out and poverty helping poverty would be nice to see.

EX was well liked, and way more popular than SF III, but most reviewers gave the games a low score because they were basically 2D games with 3D graphics when 3D was all the rage.

Except I just said the system was good & that the company actually has an excuse because this game could literally mean the demise of the company. They are milking any dollar they have left in this passion project & refuse to use kickstarter because they know that their niche title won't get the funds. People have come to terms about the roster size because they'd rather have this passion project of a game exist & support it than nothing at all. Whereas you have Capcom, a billion or million dollar company that, by all means, should put their efforts into making a strong product only for it to be lukewarm. It's made even worse when this poverty title looks better graphically than the 'AAA' crossover title which is reusing 85% of the last title. The company is also listening to the feedback of their fans unlike Capcom. It's why I also gave SNK a free pass too because KoF14 was also a poverty title, though it has WAY more funds than Arika currently has. What makes it even better is, if thus game is a success, they will have the ability to bring the rest of the EX, & maybe even Fighting Layer, cast. When your company has the BALLS to say they are expecting to LOSE money from said game, you know they are trying their damnedest to make an enjoyable title. Also, they are focusing on making it fun, which is what I expect the focus should be on.

The white haired Kairi you see now is essentially like a Satsui no Hadou form. Kairi used to be somewhat calm but still challenged others because of the voices. His body changed after Possibly murdering Akuma in the EX series.
