$24.99 with 10%-off launch week discount. Game runs at 60 FPS (not sure if it can be unlocked) with arbitrary resolutions and some other options. In-game textures are upscaled, UI's cleaned up, character/event artwork should be high-res.
>>
>tfw a game goes on GOG and makes pirating easier
>>
Not sure if I will replay. Ys is a series where every level is "THAT" level. Too many bad memories, ocean and wind level were especialy dogshit. I love ys games but replaying them is kinda hard...
>>
>>386666540

Is Ys 7 any good?
>>
>>386666706
I personally love the wind and water dungeons in Seven, as they're usually more involved, challenging, and unique vs. fire and earth. Only truly tedious dungeon is Earth Sanctum, but that's got some positives too.

>>386666635
XSEED's programmer just changed the Trails in the Sky releases on Steam to have a Steam-less launcher, and the EXEs are now universal (so GOG gets patched right around the same time as Steam now). They're making it extra convenient, not that it's ever been hard to pirate XSEED PC stuff.

>>386666989
Some obvious little problems aside, it's got more strengths than I expected on my first run. Bosses, dungeons, art and music are some of the series' best, and Flash Guard isn't as OP as it would get in Celceta. Just stay on top of getting new materials and weapons (if you want all the skills, some more useful than others) and you're golden.
>>
>>386666540
what they should bring over is nayuta no kiseki
best ys game, and it's not even ys.
>>386666989
yeah.
>>
>>386666989
It's good but it's an abrupt change in style for the series, a change which was overall for the worse honestly. Game's still ok though.
>>
>>386666989
Pretty much all games are great in the ys series. 7 is good if you are new to the series, its challenging but not THAT much, origins is much harder. Just for the love of the god make sure to level all characters equally, you need them all in the last fight and I made the mistake of literally forgetting some party members even existed
>>
I will absolutely be buying this, fucking loved this game on PSP. Also, I support Falcom in everything they do, super hype for Ys 8 next month. Hoping to see Memories of Celceta on PC eventually.
>>
>>386666540
I've played Ys 1 and 2 on steam, what's the next game in the series I should play? 3 and 4 don't seem to be on steam. Unless they can be emulated somewhere?
>>
>>386666989
I tried playing it on my PSP for 2 hours was bored to tears, Not the same pace as the other Ys on PC
>>
>>386666540
>Game runs at 60 FPS (not sure if it can be unlocked)
The other Ys games on PC (except for Celceta) run at 144 FPS.
>>
>>386667286
Oath in Felghana is 3, currently 4 (Memories of Celceta) is only on Vita, 5 doesn't have an English release, 6 is Ark of Nephestim. I would recommend playing Oath next, and then Origin after that
>>
>>386666989
Coming straigth from playing through Oath and Origin, it was the biggest disappointment I felt in a long while. The overall quality of the game took a gigantic leap down to the negatives, which is strange because this was the latest entry available when I first played. It really isn't good, I gave up halfway because I was simply bored as shit.
>>
>>386666989
Don't listen to memers.
Its good.
>>
>>386666540
>Ys Seven coming out August 30th
>Ys VIII coming out Sept 12th
Who thought that was a good idea?
>>
>>386667790
What's wrong with it?
>>
>>386666989
It's inherently worse than Oath and Origin.
You might like it more than the others if you like normal RPGs, but depending on what you like about Ys it might not scratch that particular itch.
It's pretty easy though, only Celceta is easier but Celceta at least has Frieda.
overall it's okay
>>
>no dual audio again
Day 1 pirate just like Cold Steel.
>>
>>386667218
I'd buy Nayuta in a heartbeat if it got a proper localization. Maybe XSEED can wait for that new retranslation patch to finish, then license it for an edit. They just did that with Zwei: II after all.

>>386667221
Celceta was just a very disappointing (but good) Ys entry, even after Seven. VIII does justice to the party system after 4 long years.

>>386667239
Good point. Seven's last boss requires use of all fighters, which can be a pain if you have to level up characters before retrying the last two fights.

>>386667286
Since you've done Chronicles now, which some find hard to get into because of its age, check out Ys VI if you want more series backstory with fun NPCs and dungeons (most bosses are lame to bad sadly) or do Seven if you want a lengthier adventure with more. Many will suggest Felghana next because it's the remake of Ys III, and that's a no-brainer pick too.

>>386667384
Combat and dungeons are still just as fast. It's easy to skip the story if you're not interested, unlike Origin where you can't speed up cutscenes.

>>386667470
I've got no confirmation on unlocked FPS since XSEED themselves aren't handling this port (it's contracted out to another team). Maybe Tom @ XSEED can answer this.

>>386667659
Sorry to hear. I find Seven better than Ys VI even if I prefer Oath/Origin myself.

>>386667790
How's it a bad idea? Releasing even a year after VIII would have killed sales because it's that big a leap from Seven. Just under two weeks is enough time to grab anyone interested in VIII who hasn't played a newer Ys game yet, and Seven will still have its appeal later. XSEED's even giving a launch date further out than usual, which is confident for them.

>>386667924
Seven on Hard is a nice sweet spot of challenge without tedium/dragging pace. I won't deny it's easier than Oath/Origin, but those games were by far the most challenging Falcom titles ever when they released.
>>
>the game that ruined the series with party garbage
>>
>>386667924
Was it really that easy? I remember having hard time, sure I was 15 at the time but I think saying its easy is an understatment no? Final dungeon was hard if I remember correctly and there was some dragon that transforms halfway through, moon dragon?

There's barely any voiceacting in the game. It's mostly just yells during tag-ins.

You people really are fucking retarded and just look for any petty excuse to pirate.
>>
>>386668535
Nah that's not even the only reason. The game is also overpriced and they are jewing Europe again. Fuck xshit.
>>
Seven is great like the rest of the series, but what you faggots REALLY need to play is Dawn of Ys

>>386668142
Maybe not hard, but it's not a pushover. Moon Dragon, like you mentioned, is one of the hardest bosses alongside Kava Kelos, the Wind and Earth Dragons, and a couple or so others.

>>386668665
I think the launch discount should be steeper since it's $15 on PSN.

>>386668731
truth
>>
>>386668142
Other Ys games are generally difficult for the wrong reasons.
Origins for example has you dealing 1dmg to enemies if you're even slightly underleveled (which you will be unless you grind).

Oath is the only legit amazing Ys game, the others range from mediocre to good. Ys 7 is good.
>>
>>386667535
>>386668027
I'll go with Oath then. Thanks.
>>
>>386668783
If only at least they didn't fuck europe by making the game 10% more expensive than US...
>>
>>386668665
>The game is also overpriced and they are jewing Europe again. Fuck xshit.

How in the fuck is it overpriced? GoG also gives you credit to use on other games.

As I said, you're just a fucker that looks for any petty excuse to justify piracy, which is fucking pathetic. A non retarded pirate would at least be honest enough with himself to admit that he simply doesn't want to pay for games.

They could be selling the game for 9€ and you would still look for some excuse to post online to try and justify your piracy.
>>
>>386669267

>VIII does justice to the party system

it really doesn't. if they wanted to do it justice they could've added in things like dual/triple techs like CT, so you have a reason to pick the parties you do, instead of just picking characters because of the way they look. there's a lot of things they could do with it, but they basically just rehashed it from the last two. even more disappointing is how they removed some of the party skills in celceta. jumping is nice anyway though.

XSEED stopped licensing fan translations after they did so for Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin, which led to the NightWolve drama. They seem to have started doing this again with Xanadu Next from last year (the new script still has the same ending, credits roll, lore, and opening text), so they must have found a more air-tight way to pay fan translators/hackers/editors.

>>386670824
Undub mods aren't on the same plane of compensation as large overall fixes to shoddy ports. XSEED's funded better PC ports ever since Little King's Story, their first console-to-PC commission, turned out poorly.

>>386670920
Platforming in and out of combat, much better dungeons and bosses, and restrictions to item use on higher difficulties are more what I'm talking about.

You don't want to use that patch if you're playing to read everything. Despite a lot of clean-up, it's based on a machine translation and is inaccurate even when readable. A new editor and translator are picking this up: https://heroesoflegend.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=339

XSEED asked for HQ assets, but Falcom didn't give any (probably because they didn't make any for Seven, which changed with Zero).

>>386677758
It's got only superficial callbacks to the old classic Xanadu games and no relation to either Faxanadu or Tokyo Xanadu (former plays closer, but stories aren't connected at all). Xananext is really good if you want Brandish-like dungeon crawling without a Brandish-style perspective, and the game's well paced and easy to get into. Also has maybe Falcom's best final dungeon yet.

>>386677945
They could have done better at matching UI elements. Some bits are upscaled from PSP, others seem redrawn.
>>
>>386678053

Xanadu Next really is one of a kind, so I wouldn't feel pressured to try Toxanadu or Faxanadu or even the PC-X8 games if they don't appeal. As I mentioned, Brandish is Falcom's more involved dungeon-crawling series if you end up wanting more of that.
>>
I've played and replayed every single Ys game available on PC up to this moment, but I don't think I'll be doing that with 7. It's a decent game and quite worthy of a playthrough, but I thought it was a weak reinvention considering how fucking good Origin/Oath/Napishtim were.

>>386678567
I thought Oath was rather weak compared to Origin if I'm being honest.

I'd rather play Ark again just because it's a lot faster than Celceta and the bosses aren't that much worse. Celceta's good, but its story isn't as fun and worth revisiting, and I prefer Ark's dungeons too.

For people who really loved playing the felghana style games on nightmare, what did you think of 7? I'm very skeptical of the partyshit.

Pirate it first and see how much you like it. You can skip most of the intro since it's longer than it needs to be, then skip the tutorial and get out to the overworld to start combat and visit the first boss. NPCs and some parts of the story are fun (especially a couple of later twists), but you'll pick up on everything quick even after skipping a lot of the early stuff. Don't worry too much about skills, but try and get as many weapons as possible (without going overkill on getting materials) to see skill descriptions, or check a guide before deciding on which sound useful and worth leveling.
>>
>Solo Adol Mod Never.
>>
>>386666540
Eh played the shit out of it on PSP and don't really want to repurchase. Would rather wait for Zwei.
>>
>>386680932
If you want extra challenge and don't mind some longer fights, avoid learning Flash Guard (except for the coliseum boss) and limit item use. This approach isn't as fun or well-paced on Nightmare, but that mode will make things a decent amount harder than on Hard.

>>386682069
Seven has attack-type accessories for Adol right near the end, which should be attainable from the start via a Cheat Engine mod. You'll still have the other two fighters screwing around, but they hardly do damage when you're not controlling them.

>>386682121
Zwei: II looks damn great anyway.
