I only vaguely remember the game from my childhood, took seeing the scare mechanic to jog my memory and even then I'm not sure if it was the PS1 or PS2 version. These other two I remember playing extensively

Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf (known as Sheep Raider in the US) is a totally forgotten platformer that most people assume is some cheap mvie-tie in. In fact its an original game and is a rather good one too but it came out rather late is the ps1's life cycle.

I still own my disc and play it (via an emulator) every now and then.

It was kind of shit, but I liked the art direction. On the off chance of anyone remembering this shit, I've got to ask: are there any games in a similar vein that keep the comfy sunset-gold aesthetic but don't screw it up with bad gameplay?

Same here - it's a really weird port that doesn't have any texture filtering. Weirder still, it's incredibly hard to track down an ISO of the PS2 version (keeping in mind that the PC version of the game is based on the PS1 edition).
