There's that level from CoD2 where you play the Desert Rats under siege in a town surrounded by Germans. When they start the offensive you give coordinates through binocular spotting to that Scottish guy who relays them to an artillery team. Was pretty fun.

It's not fun if you're literally just guessing and spamming.
Using it on known chokepoints or high traffic areas feels really rewarding even if you don't see them.

Artillery is the best goddamn thing manking has invented.

The ability to unleash complete destruction on your enemies from extremely long distances is extremely satisfying. If there is a way to use artillery in a game, you bet I'm using it.

Amazing Range
It could even hit moving targets.

Too bad Westwood nerfed it in the update reducing the range and screwing its ability to hit vehicles. In the original TS, you could anihilate your enemy with 5 of these.

This. It's not especially fun for either side involved. Especially in Molson's like squad or Arma where you literally just punch the map coordinates into a mortor calculator and click the fire button every ~10 seconds.

It's not especially fun for he artillery guy and very unfun to get blown to hell by something you could never see coming as infantry

People already don't like getting killed by things they can hardly see like snipers or tanks taking advantage of their range, so things like artillery would only make matters worse considering your average person can't or won't change their playstyle to account for long ranged attacks.

Even in more niche and realistic games like Red Orchestra, Squad/PR or ArmA, you still see people refusing to do much like taking cover or trying to do something against it.

Artilleries have much bigger cannons compared to tanks. They will literally flip over if they fired their guns outside of certain angles. Also, they have way less armor and more shock-absorbing tech.

Fellow autist here, how many games have actually allowed this?

I used to do it in BF1942 until I found out that recon can just pick targets for naval guns and it'll automatically show them where to aim to make the shot.

Foxhole has a dank artillery system where 2 players control an artillery piece. One of them moves it and spots with binoculars, the other fires the artillery. Also Verdun has artillery/mortar depending on faction NCO and there is also the option to use Gas Artillery as well.

ArmA has one hell of a learning curve and there's people out there that take it way too seriously.

But holy shit is the game fun if you get in the mood, get semi-serious yourself and learn how to actually play and know all the eight hundred buttons that to useful things. It's like learning dorf fort. Stick with it and you'll have a retarded amount of fun.
Once you get being infantry down, you'll almost always want to try being a helicopter pilot carting people around or being an attack helicopter. Another steep learning curve but dude.. Zig-zagging between hills in an attack chopper and laying down a line of rockets and decimating a group of enemies that have your infantrymen pinned down feels so good you'll pop a rod that'll rip your pants.

Artillery jus doesn't fit the scale of most games, it needs to be adjusted, the damage must be toned down so it's never a hit kill, bu then this will affect the suspension of disbelief as people survive direct hits from artillery shells, also even if you had completely manual targeting with spotters and shit, people would eventually learn the maps and the best spots to blast away and it would be really non fun to be on the receiving side.

Present in HoMM games.
Present in Stronghold games.

There's artillery in vidya, its just not different from other troops most of the time, because you can't show on screen the difference in RANGE that it has to, say, a foot soldier. It would just make the game too zoomed out.
