Sorry that I prefer card games where the decks don't just play themselves so there's actual decisions to be made when playing the game. Every archetype in YGO just has a bunch of cards that pull stuff straight from your deck so all you have to do is follow the instructions on the cards, since they tell you what to grab and from where, rather than actually think about how to play the game.

Back in the very early days, Ritual Monsters were one of the only ways to Special Summon high-level monsters while only discarding random monsters from your hands. The Fusion Monsters introduced in the GX Era with their more relaxed requirements hurt them a bit, and Synchro Summons made them almost completely worthless. Now they all seem to have ridiculous effects and high attack strength to make up for the fact that they're now relatively difficult to summon.

The changes didn't just fucked Carly (and at some extent Jack too, who ended up being a comic relief character for a lot of episodes. They cut a whole arc here). Aki was also affected. Her backstory was cut because it was related to Arcadia Movement (a cult). Konami didn't want to be associated as a pro-cult supporter so they did everything to erase those connections. Aki and Carly were tainted by this shit.

Besides, Aki's VA married his husband after the dark signer arc and that affected her screen time (which was mostly given to Crow, who was supposed to be the last dark signer but they forced him into the 5Ds group because blackwing cards were really popular in Japan and that was another improvised change in the plot).

Considering the irl hardships, I'm surprised they managed to finish 5Ds.

My beef with Arc-V is the stalling arc that was the Synchro dimension and how the entire build up for Yuya was thrown away once they moved to the Xyz dimension. Yuya learns something new only to go back to square one like Ash from pokemon. They made him too fixed into using entermate when he had the timegazers archetypes which don't seem like they match with the entermates. Nirvana was Yuya's awakening into playing his way and was a perfect opportunity to show Yuya's maturity. But like I said, once they move to a different dimension, he forgot everything. There was no Yuya vs Yugo battle like the opening tried to hint at which was a complete disappointment and maybe they had so many characters they couldn't develop them each so they had to put them away which is a shame because Sawatari was my favorite.

The Dark Signers made sense as villain and were actually pretty goddamn dangerous. Not only that but they weren't even really bad guys either, since Godwin was really the final villain at the end of the arc. The motivations for each character in that arc was mostly good, you could understand both the villain's and hero's perspective and goals, which made the duels in that arc even better.

Yliaster didn't have the same draw in that the Dark Signer arc had. The duels were exciting but the plot was fairly confusing. My favorite duel in that arc was Yusei vs Bruno,

That was both confusing and silly but we've seen far stranger in Yugioh before in GX for example. What was really confusing is where the robots came from, everyone uses Synchro too much so robots appear, but they also happen to use the robots as monsters so it was weird as fuck.

Zexal was much weirder in terms of plot but you could follow along with it and made sense for the most part.

The Tag force PSP ai is kinda amazingly smart and stupid at the same time. Like it'll pull off the best combos both with it's hands and decks, certainly enough to make a decent opponent. Not him. Duels were good and dark signer's decks and boss monsters were terrifying. You could feel the fear. There was a huge emotional factor in most of them and they were also very dramatical. Kiryu's infernoid deck was sick (in the 2010 DS game I remember thar was the most difficult duel, also, the game put as a condition starting without cards in the hand, so you had to face immediately his cardless/graveyard combo). Nigger I only really started to get into Yugioh during the JunkDoppel era and I remember when Xyzs were still new. Yugioh is fun when both players are back and forthing with each other, when one dude has the advantage but the other can turn it around with a little luck and brains. The best duel I've ever had was when this guy managed to find a way to beat me when I had 3 Quasars on the field within 1 turn, we were talking shit to each other and everything. Game isn't as fun when its just one guy SSing every 10 seconds until he has a field of SSed monsters on the first turn and some facedown STs too, what can the other guy do other than stall and whittle down the first turn player? Its not about glorifying the past when the current state of the game is unfun and not worth playing unless its just casual play.

What this anon said. Normally, you will struggle to chose your 40 cards. Cash Back has a very limited use and most probably you won't get the chance to use it at all. It's a -1 in your deck.

Most decks only have one or two solemn traps and soul charge. It would be useful in a very specific context (I don't know, maybe if you're playing a deck that constantly is using LP to do shit).

There are two Yugioh games on 3ds, one based on Zexal which they cut more than half of the content during the localization and one which I looks neat with all the monster holograms and shit but with little to no customization and looks aimed to more of a casual crowd.

Don't worry anon, i'm was on the same boat until I decided to try and get back in the game, I still play my favorite archetype that I though was dead by today standar, but for the most part it works very well with also some of the current cards to support it and I just do fine against some of the modern archetypes.

Also Black Luster Soldier is still a very good monster thought, you can still stick him if you want since he has got a good chunck of good support that makes him fun to play even by today standars.
