I'm excited for World, and it's probably my second most anticipated game of 2018 after Butterlord. I really hope the PC release isn't too far behind the console versions, but I can wait a bit longer since I love the series so much.

I would play an older title or two just to see where the series has come from. PSP emulation is really good so one of those titles might be a good place to start otherwise the 3DS has some good ones.

So for PSP your options are:

Freedom Unite will give you the most old fag points but the two Ultimate games and Portable 3rd are likely the best places for a new, solo player to start.

Hell yes I'm hyped. I've been playing MonHun since 2005/06 starting with the original MH for ps2, then MHDos, MHFU, MH3p, MH3U, MH4U, MHGen and even tried both Frontier and the chinese one MHOnline.

I think I speak for most or the oldfags hunters that if there was one thing we've been waiting is a "next gen" MH with new textures and animations. So yes, I can't wait to buy & play MHW for the PS4 & the PC.

I just hope that the number of monsters won't be affected by the jump in quality, like MH Tri.

piscine wyverns are full-divers and they normally can live in waters/sands/lava, see lavasioth for example he can dive into water and dig into rocks but he doesnt look like a leviathan, piscine wyverns have a snake-like body shape with small fins and HUGE legs, they could just make delexdrome having huge spiky fins and instead of walking like plessy or lavasioth they could make him walk like the skullcrawlers from kong skull island for example, leviathans are much slower and heavier in size than piscines

I've been streaming Monster Hunter a lot

the main reason i'm enjoying streaming it so much is because it's so comfy, just hop online with some friends and play MHFU or MHP3RD and just have fun, kill some monsters and make some armor

That was always my problem with the series, I didn't go where it went. I played the shit out of the original. They never gave us 2. I didn't have money for a PSP. They announce 3 for PS3 and I ask for a PS3 for my birthday when our family actually has some money for once and I get one. Capcom proceeds to go "lol nevermind we're putting it on Wii exclusively." At this point I have a $600 console and no money to afford a Wii. They later release Frontier on PC but wont give us a fucking localized version. I have only ever been blueballed by the series.

I do eventually play Freedom Unite on a PSP emulator with some friends pretty in depth. I eventually purchase a 3DS for 4 and Generations to only realize even though I've only played the original game and Freedom Unite extensively, 4 and Generations are pretty fucking stagnant and barely bring anything new to the series. It graphically and mechanically feels like I'm still playing the old PS2 game.

MHW is honestly the kind of step up I expected from MH3 for PS3. Graphical improvements, smoother mechanics and quality of life changes, and terrain destruction.

After 13 fucking years I'm finally getting the true Monster Hunter 2. Everything else can go eat a dick. All the games after it just felt like standalone expansion packs that required you to delete your character and start over.

For one it's not a second, it takes as long as it used to if not slightly longer. If you cancel it by rolling or getting hit then the item doesn't take effect and you'll still be in danger, so you can't tank hits with healing. The walking is pretty slow and running costs stamina as well. All that is on the backdrop of many more monsters, monsters being smarter and more aggressive, and areas being seamless so you can't zone out and have to be more active in finding a safe place to heal. Overall it seems like it'll work out fine and just serve to keep the pace going over the bigger areas, and there sure won't be mindless healing like you say because of this in particular.

Hunting Horn is easily one of the best beginner weapons. Just remember to keep your movement speed song up at all times.

Try out a few weapons on an easy monster and then pick one to learn for a while. Remembering Hunting Horn songs on the fly can be a bit tricky but none of the weapons are difficult to learn.

Yeah I started playing 4U last month and I have about 180 hours on it and it has a decent online. Though be warned that since there's a smaller pool of players playing, the quality of randoms uis usually either utter shit or guys with ridiculous endgame armor/weapons. I'd recommend just soloing most of LR/HR and maybe do online for G-rank. Though of course, nothing is stopping you from soloing everything which is more than doable. But grinding shit is a lot more tolerable online.

Don't like any of the new style and arts system.

The problem is that you can still get partial effects from the potion even if you dodge out of it, so you could gulp down half a potion while running and then dodge a monster attack and keep the health, where before you got locked in place and even if you did get the potion off you lost pretty much all the health you gained from it depending on the attack and opened yourself up to get comboed and stunned. As far as the more aggressive thing, from all the gameplay footage we've seen, the monsters look like they use pretty much the same AI in LR we've seen before. It does somewhat compensate for the nonsegmented maps but I still feel like it's more of a casulization thing as opposed to a QOL thing. Also see Frontier with it's aggressive as shit monsters, theyre a hell of a lot more intense than 140GQs and G deviants and they still have a stand and flex for potions.

Is there footage of this somewhere? I've watched all the gameplay demos so far and specifically saw a part where the person playing was hit right after he started drinking and his health was reduced from the point before the "healing", and I haven't seen any footage of someone successfully using dodging out of using a potion.
If you watch the way monsters go through animations closely, you can see a much smoother transition and better attack choices from what's merely the Kut Ku of the game in a tutorial build. Frontier isn't a really valid comparison since that still has the old map style and is generally built off of the old engine as well as having years of MMO power creep piled on top of it.

Meh. I want to see more videos of the hunter just hunting, not leading the monster around. I don't give a shit about all the things you can do with the environment, I just want to hunt. Also, more HBG videos. Right now, I'm more likely to get a Switch for Brave Mode shenanigans.

I remember seeing it in a long gameplay video, don't have a timestamp and don't remember if it was the hidden cam one or the official one, but I remember it being a mechanic. The new healing system works in that your health increases slowly while you drink the potion, where it all came in the old system. So if you get hit midway through healing, new way you would lose health from the attack at that point and lose the potion, old way your health burst up immediately. As far as the smoother transitions and attack choices, wouldn't that just be the new monsters having better animations and attacks in general? The Rath shown off had the exact same AI as XX as far as I could see minus the monster interaction stuff, guess we'll have to see more monsters and shit to see for sure though.

Honest question here. What keeps you guys coming back? I played FU years ago and recently picked up Gen with a few mates. It seems like over half the game is recycled content.

The environmental traps and damage everywhere are concerning.

I don't really mind the changes to healing and open maps, as those things complement each other.

But having all that junk all over feels like most hunts will just be people dragging the monster from one part of the map to the other getting it stuck or staggered, dealing damage, and then moving to the next hazard, and after all that, you go to the most open and safe area in the map to fight it until it dies.

It seems more like they're just showing it all off for the sake of promo footage than anything else. I really doubt it'd be worthwhile to waste so much time leading the monster throughout the whole map just for the sake of some environmental traps when you could just beat the shit out of it.

I watched both of those several times as well as the Japanese stream one. The health filling up is just a way of it visually showing how long until the item will be finished. I remember stopping specifically to check the one part where he got hit during it to make sure it didn't take effect and it didn't.

Sure, but that still translates to them being more aggressive overall. Though they've been going on about how the monsters are smarter and more reactive now so that would likely be reflected in their combat AI too, that was still the E3 tutorial demo and the reveal of the game.

I doubt it'll turn out to only be like that, any time spent trying to move it is time you're not hitting it, plus I think the area will generally be different each time so there'll be an element of making do with what you have access to and you would have to specifically plan around trying to lure it to places. It would just be a different and potentially fun strategy. But really, they just wanted to show off their new mechanics so that's why the demos were filled with them running around.
