This isn't a good thing.

Playstation right now is suffering the ill effects of a pyrrhic victory. Although they have sold many consoles, they are not making nearly as much money as Nintendo.

Sony's attempts at expanding outside of Playstation consoles (Vita, PSNow, the Vita) have all ended in failure while Nintendo's expansions (Such as Amiibo and their mobile games) have been massive successes.

Essentially what's happening is that people are buying PS4's JUST for GTA and nothing else. That's fine for Rockstar, considering they have microtransactions in place, but for other people trying to sell games....? Ha ha.

What's going to happen is that games for Playstation consoles are going to become more and more expensive to produce, and devs are going to rely more and more on microtransactions to compensate. HOWEVER when a game underperforms, and relies on microtransactions to make the money back, it is actually a BIGGER bomb than what it would have been initially, since the budget revolved around the expectation that people would pay for nothing.

In short, Nintendo audiences actually like buying and playing unique games while Playstation audiences generally are drawn to the fact that Playstation is 'popular' despite having no real interest in video games as a whole.

Oh, and don't believe Playstation's official software attache rate... they consider games downloaded for free through PS+ to be 'sold' games. In fact,they're pulling all sorts of weird tricks to pretend that they're more successful than they really are. For example, approaching no name blogs to give TLOU Game of the Year Awards in exchange for publicity. Suddenly, TLOU has the most GOTY awards out of any game ever in spite of not being all that special.

PS+ is only profitable because having that service in place costs Sony nothing. Ultimately Sony is so poorly run that that is the ONLY reason they are making any money at all right now.

Nintendo will have a similar service up next year that will just as successful.

If it was just another run of the mill mid-end PC I wouldn't have gotten it, and thanks to the portability I'm actually getting a multi-plat on it (DQB2) because a lot of people I know own the switch, and sony for some reason opted out of cross platform play.
