3 is my favourite. I picked up the DS version around the time the Wii was coming out, it was actually my first Final Fantasy and I loved it. I don't care for the ATB system so I haven't played much of the other titles, and 10 was okay but the long, dragged out dungeons started boring me to death.

Recently I played the original 3 for NES using a translated rom and I actually prefer it to the remake, it's not bogged down with sluggish cutscenes and shoehorned, "character development"

I also like FF1 but the instant death that's littered throughout is unforgivable

While all my friends raved about SEPHIROTH AND CLODU SOTARIFU, I was guiding Ramza through an actually good game.

Even thought FFTA wasn't literal Ivalice, at least it revived the sentiment, and paved the way for 12 and TA2, neither of which were excellent games, but at least expanded the best universe.

You have to take the context of the time

FF VI was the last one and it was just sprites. Then you load up VII and the first thing you see is this (at the time) amazing cutscene. Even though the in game models look like shit the backgrounds looked awesome and the game was really new and cool.

Also it was the first Final Fantasy released in Europe so that's an entire continents (besides importers) first experience.

The game itself isn't anything special but it has a lot of good moments.
