What a mistake i did. That space on the map seemed so small, but it was actually 2 sides full of floors and hard beasts. I was so underleveled too

PSP: Maria is playable and you get to fight her, the voice acting doesn't sound stupid, you can get two more familiars, and there are tinsels in the Marble Corridor.

Pic related. I cant find where i read that but apparently only the Saturn and PSP had these in a level.
Any version is fine really, but i found the PSP's pad to be better to input the spells, and the game can also be more pleasant on an handheld.
The only downside is that you wont have the cheesy voice acting that started so many memes.

I didn't have a good experience CoM, I dropped it after an hour.
Then played I played Aria, and is one of my all time favorite metroidvania.
HoD starts good, but becomes stale afterwards. Dropped it after about 4 hours.

As for classic styled Castlevania, I'm torn between the NES original and Super IV.
III was too damn hard for me.

I haven't noticed anything different, but you can get the Chaos Ring on a NG+ after having collected all the souls, which give you unlimited mana.
