what exactly does the y-axis measure here? "Know by"?

They had a poll, y axis is the percentage of users that voted on that game.
>>
So is RPG Codex /v/'s older Gen X brother?
>>
>>386626805
Not everyone likes grinding to follow the meta and its hardly much of a RPG since most of the appeal is theorycrafting, not experiencing the adventure.
It makes perfect sense.
>>
>>386626898
And less retarded
>>
>>386626827
so is this saying almost 50% of users didn't know of dark souls?
>>
>>386627016
50% of users didn't vote on dark souls, yes
>>
>>386626513
Darkest Dungeon deserves better.
>>
>>386627131
but darkest dungeon is an incredibely slow, boring and grindy experience
>>
Are there any tactical games that have me just control myself?

I was a bit interested in Shadowrun but I don't wanna baby my fucking squad, I just wanna play me.
>>
>>386626513
Is "Your next favorite game" a good thing or are they being sarcastic?
>>
>>386627016
Well I mean it's an action game with stats so the fact that it's even on there at all is a stretch. I mean it's nice to see a community that has their fucking heads on straight when it comes to Diablo 3, but why is it even on the list at all? I mean shit, there's more character customization in fucking Dota 2 but it was good enough to get Dark Souls on there so why not that?
>>
>>386626513

Is there an actual readable version of the bottom part? It looks like zalgo text
>>
>>386627797

Its a better torchlight game but it is not a better diablo 2. The general ambience is not diablo 2. But the gameplay is.
>>
>>386626513
The mere fact that this graph exists shows that Codexfags are autistic manchildren.
>>
>>386627572
And here I'd thought I'd found a naturally grown community that prefers interesting new takes on old genres over contrived sentimental tripe.

Fucking why? It was better than the first one and the first one was good.
>>
>>386627016
RPGcodex is mostly a western CRPG focused site so a lot of its users may simply have never played it.

>dark souls that high
Never fails to make me laugh that they actually pretended Dark Souls was a "crpg". The codex is just a bunch of dumbasses trying to look smart for praising games they haven't played. The fact that Wizardry 4 was on their list of top RPGs of all time is proof positive that they don't actually play the obscure games they rate highly, only the mainstream ones. Not to mention the fact they passed up ACTUAL Japanese crpgs like stuff from Falcom and Artdink in favor of a shitty console port of a mediocre game.

>>
>>386629000
How fast and snappy is the combat? My biggest problem with turn based crpgs on grids is that battles take too fucking long. But if it's fast-paced enough I actually greatly prefer turn based over real time with pause
>>
>>386629107
It's a codex thing.
>>
>>386626513
What a fucking hideous chart
>>
>>386627337

First and second Dark Souls are very much RPGs if you don't play around the roll. Resource management and equipment become very important when you're not abusing iframes.
>>
>>386628672
>Never fails to make me laugh that they actually pretended Dark Souls was a "crpg".
They don't what the fuck
Literally nobody says that dark souls is a cRPG, are you retarded?
>>
>>386629243
It's fast - actions happen quickly but not too quickly to follow, and there's no appreciable lag between turns. The action point system is really intuitive, too, it took me a few fights to learn but once I did I found fights flowed really well and I acted pretty decisively because the fights are easy to follow; I've found even fights with many combatants flow well and progress quickly. I've really enjoyed the variety of tactical options and different builds/approaches, too, even though my own build is relatively straightforward.

I'm sure you could find a torrent somewhere if you wanted to try the gameplay out for yourself.
Just make sure you know what stats do and how character building works before you put a character together.
>>
>>386626513
Among all those games outside of "Literally who?" the only ones I've never heard of are Serpent in the Staglands and Heroine's Quest. I think I'll go check them out.
>>
>>386630034
How damage spongey are the enemies? That's usually the biggest factor.
>>
>>386626513
>55% positive reaction for FTL

>>
>>386627572
Oh, I thought they weren't that retarded since the graph is not bad at all.
>>
Isometrics RPGS are boring. Reading is shit.
>>
>>386630157
>How damage spongey are the enemies?
Not at all that I've found. There are some tougher enemies (robots and a couple of particular kinds of creatures) that can resist damage early on, but they're intended to be challenging and there's plenty of options to deal with them (avoidance, special attacks, EMP grenades for robots, armour-piercing rounds, higher-calibre/better-quality weapons, feats).
For example, the creatures I was talking about - Burrowers - are clearly telegraphed to the player as something to avoid when you discover them during a quest very early in the game and your more experienced companions order them sealed up. On my first I foolishly tried my luck because I'd just slaughtered a bunch of raiders and looted an assault rifle, and got my face kicked in because I couldn't touch them. Came back five levels later with a better rifle and AP rounds and had no trouble at all.

Later on the player and enemies can find and use energy shields, but I think they're used well - they react to different types of attack differently, and if you have to you can smash them with EMP grenades, so I didn't find they drew fights out too much.

Depends on your build and the specific enemy. As long as you're prepared nothing is ever really bad.

Also you can speed up combat animations up to 1000% of their original speed.

But the proper preparation takes quite a bit of understanding how will the game progress.

The hell you going on about? Also Stealth isn't necessary.

I know DC gets a lot of hate but I loved that area. Frantically dashing between the safe spots while learning the layout and shortcuts was tense as fuck.
