What are the best adventure games and why?
Not point and clicks, that's for damn sure.

This game good?
Pretty much game but the fourth and the ones by Tell Tale are worth playing. First 2 are expertly made (though the "special editions" do leave a lot to be desired), while the third game (pic related) had a nice art direction that made it feel like you were playing a cartoon.
full throttle

I'd say so. It's not perfect, but if you enjoyed Casablanca, you'll probably get a kick out the similar story it tells.

SotC...
is an action/adventure game.

I cant hate any of the monkey Islands I actually played 4 on the ps2 first and I'm biased enough towards it that I wouldnt tell someone to skip it. Curse is my favorite. The only reason i dont like the telltale one was cause they seemed to have wanted to continue it but gave up for more walking sims. Otherwise its good on it own.

I ain't picking that up

It has the old adventure game issues of overtly convoluted puzzles that probably require the shameless use of a guide at several points, but the writing and atmosphere still makes it a classic in my eyes.

>I ain't picking that up
Well that's a shame, it's a solid game.

I liked Fran Bow more than I expected to. Does a decent job subverting expectations once you escape the initial horror hospital setting.

I'll always have a soft spot for the Longest Journey series.

tell me why I should play this

Psychonauts, if you classify the weird culmination of 3D platforming, exploration, and applying random items/powers to solve puzzles as adventure.

Creative sci-fi meets fantasy setting, likable characters, good sense of humor. I have thick nostalgia goggles for it, but I think it's one of the better examples of characters exploring themes of depression and being burnt out on life while being thrown into a fantastical life-changing situation.
The combat/stealth elements they added to the second game were pretty grating, but I still remember the writing having its moments.
The third game's kind of all over the place though. Answering some questions and just raising more.

They are games
>Maintains the feel of old adventures games
>Doesn't have bullshit convoluted puzzles
>Great art style and soundtrack
>Extremely simplistic story that's endearing
>Likable characters without any dialogue
>Sound design in general is great
Only complaints are that it's pretty short and you can get all the answers to the puzzles pretty easily in game. Really good modern point and click game

I played zero escape games for the first time and actually liked them. The puzzles in the first game were very logical.

Don't listen to this anon, it has nothing in common with Casablanca other than a visual style that has, among many other influences, some elements vaguely and supposedly influenced by Casablanca (but more likely noir era films in general). I've seen it several times and played the game several times and I can't think of a single thing they share, so I guess it's mostly a way for people to wrongfully describe the Art Deco and whatnot. Which makes zero sense, but at least more sense than saying the story shares anything with it.
Casablanca is a WW2 spy drama, Grim Fandango is a surreal p&c taking place in the afterlife. Other than both having characters and general tropes like mobsters, gamblers, a resistance cell, etc. they have literally, positively, absolutely nothing in common.

I wonder what is the easiest retro (pre-2000) point and click adventure game?
