Dark Souls 1 wasn't open world. The open world meme is a ton of empty, open, boring space with either nothing to do or too much meaningless stuff to do. Dark Souls has an interconnected world, and that's what everyone wanted out of its sequels. 3 had almost no choice in where to go at all, giving it almost no replay value among other things

We may be autistic but were not a hive mind. When a game comes out and people don't like it they shitpost on 4chan. The people that do like it are playing it instead, or at least avoiding the bait threads. Not to mention this site will shit on anything, and people with no interest in the game will just do it out of spite.

Linear and open world aren't opposites.
Open world means no direction is given to the player.
Linear means there is one direction.

The opposite of open world is giving the player some direction, even if, as is the case in DaS1, that means several directions are available.
