>>
I didn't know the password for the sunken ship in Super Mario RPG was "pearls".
>>
>>386594019
That was impossible for me because the game was in English and I didn't understand English at that age.
>>
Probably gonna be whatever's got me stuck in Septerra Core if I ever find the solution to this puzzle reeeeeeeee

Other than that, Ninja Gaiden. Had to get to the other side of an airship, think this was the third level or something. No clues, just design leading you here to a gap. Fucked about for ages trying to figure it out, just to accidentally jump onto a cable that I assumed was part of the scenery. Shimmy across to the end and that's it done, couldn't believe I wasted so much time there

Got near the end of Uninvited on NES but everytime I tried to push the sleeping evil wizard into the hole he'd wake up and kill me. Asked Nintendo Power for help (by letter!) and six weeks later the answer came that you had to [Use] the wizard on the hole.

It wasn't stupid, the game was stupid. They said when the cursor was on sabin input the attack. How was I to know the cursor wasn't the upside down triangle?

Came back years later and hacked an end game weapon on sabin with game genie that paralized him and did a shit ton of damage. Still took like 3 hits to down him though, apparently he does have a finite amount of health but it's like over 10k.

In E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy there is a level where you basically talk to people and you have to find a guy in some random shithole, the guy is inside a sewer pipe and to clear the pipe you have to press something and shoot a pipe, but the game never tells you have to shoot the pipe TWICE
The level was big too so I got stuck on it for two hours before looking online

>>

>stuck for so long i maxed out all characters to 30
almost the same. personally got my party to level 27, which made the game even easier to beat for my brother's friend, who borrowed the game and knew the password to the ship.
>>
>>386598120
As a kid I had no idea how to advance in this game past a certain point, and when I was older I just resorted to a guide.

I still don't think I ever finished it though. I should, because the gameplay isn't great but the graphics, music, and narration are top tier.
>>
>>386599325
Nice. It's missing the shitty dolphin minigame though
>>
>>386599325
Funny story about those buttons.

>Middle school, FF7 just came out
>Borrow it from a friend
>First time playing, get the buttons right on the first try.
>Assume it was just another scripted scene that worked no matter what you do.
>Spend years not understanding what the fuck my friend was talking about when he mentioned the buttons
>Get the game again as an adult, get to that part.
>End up stuck at it for almost a fucking hour.

Seriously, what the hell were they thinking.

Also, through all my playthroughs, I still haven't got the slightest clue how the marching minigame works.

i also got stuck for a long time in final fantasy 8 because i couldn't find the hatch to go to the sniper nest at the end of disc 1
>>
>>386599953
bullshit parts of FF7. First ones confusingly worded, 2 of them obnoxious minigames, 2 of them have really difficult to pin down timing, and the last one is a frequently encountered final battle square enemy that will knock you out of the arena before you can do anything, wasting a shitload of your time.
>>
>>386597110
Is that where you have to press several buttons at once? I think keyboards only register 2-3 keys at a time. I think I solved it by mapping multiple buttons to the same key.

When I played it, I learned Aurablast before I ever got to that boss, and Aurablast vastly outdamaged pummel. Since the game never indicated that you had to use pummel to damage him, I never felt the need to use it. Why use a lower damage move that, for some reason, I always had more trouble inputting than Aurablast?

Thankfully my brother walked in while I was fighting him for the 4th time and said "Bro, you need to use pummel to beat him" or I'd have been stuck a lot longer.

I didn't realize you had to examine the jail door to trigger Kris to open it.
I was stuck there for 7 years and every time I made it to that point I would overwrite my save with a new one and play to that point, then repeat. Imagine my surprise when I realized that the game was much longer than just "go to jail."
>>
>>386599953
First pic is the nonsensical typo
Second is the button pressing where they DON'T tell you to count to 3 before making the attempt. It comes with this long drawn-out lean back which does nothing to actually telegraph when you're supposed to push, since you do it, too.
Third, the point where you think jump isn't even close. The most hilarious part is that the jump animation for a failure is completely different from success, so if you use the failure animation as a means of timing, you'll never get it right.
4th, you absolutely don't want to enter the parade the way you're shown. Also, syncing your rifle with the rest of the guys is not how to raise your ratings.
No idea what's going on in the 5th, but that minigame is ass. Hilariously, there's a cheat where attacking a propellor gives you more points than you'll get shooting everything else in the game combined.
6th, rare encounter that only shows up in one place. You need to morph it to get a special item, which you trade for a materia that removes the countdown from the Emerald Weapon fight. No indication that you should do this. Only clue you're given is that it's a book that sank with a ship.

Got to some part somewhat late in Golden Sun 2 in which I was able to sail around mostly the whole world, but got stuck on a puzzle for a couple weeks and refused to use a guide. Then I quit playing it for about a couple months before going back to it... and I had absolutely no fucking idea where I was in the story. Not a clue. There was no indication anywhere, and I swore that I went and talked to every fucking NPC and visited every town that I could find - nothing, and I couldn't find that exact puzzle again.

I had spent so many hours on that game and the first before that, and was so pissed. I read through guides, but could never quite figure out what I was supposed to do, so I gave up. Golden Sun 2 is like a fever dream in my video game consciousness.

yeah I'm really glad my mum got me the strategy guide when I was a kid because that part of the world was really confusing to me. The game world suddenly becomes massively open. I was fine doing it again recently but I vaguely remembered a decent amount of stuff.

I've done the same thing twice in FF6 though, dropping the game in WOR and then come back to it completely lost in where I am or what I was about to do, or where I've been already. Still have never actually beaten that game

In Wind Waker, I must've gotten around 30 Joy Pendants from random enemy drops. They seemed absolutely worthless, so I sold them all to Beedle. It turns out that in order to progress the game, you have to have at least twenty of these piece of shit pendants to give to some teacher. I spent days showing random items to the butler at the cabana, praying that I wouldn't need those Joy Pendants that I sold, until I finally bit the bullet and looked up a walkthrough.

Call me a retard all you want since i probably deserve it, but the first time i played red dead redemption i legitimately spent 3 hours in the mission where you have to tame two horses; the game simply tells you that you shouldn't let john fall off the horse but it doesn't tell you how, so if he was leaning to the right i moved the joystick to the opposite direction, when that didn't work i moved it in the same direction, up and down, both sticks, the dpad, i tried EVERYTHING and i still fell off the fucking horse.

Wanna know how i got past it? I told my dad to do it for me and he simply went apeshit with the controller and made circles with both sticks, somehow it worked.

Worst part of the original was having to be in the exact pixel for magic to have any effect at all when doing puzzles. Can't remember how many times I cycled through all the spells, even the ones that made no sense, and 20 minutes later it turned out I had to take one step to the left.

When I was younger I hated grinding in the old school turn based rpg games so I would constantly run from fights and use whatever items I could to avoid combat.

First game I got stuck in was dragon warrior 1, I had completed every quest and had the rainbow bridge to the dragon lord's castle. I was level 16... I couldn't kill him (obviously) and I couldnt bear to suffer through the grind to get level 21 (the minimum recommended level to fight him). I did this constantly over many titles. Regularly getting to the final boss but being completely unable to defeat him because I had skipped all the grinding and sneaking my way through the entire game.

The growth in popularity of action/real time rpgs was a fucking godsend for me (until that point I could only finish Zelda style games). I still hate combat in turn based rpg games. It's weird I know, but looking back it's kind of an accomplishment.

Can't particularly remember any games I have been stuck on, but I do remember playing the first discworld game on the ps1 when I was very young. It was one of those point and click style adventure games where it came down to either find the pixel in the right location (of about 30 locations) to continue or combine these two items out of the 50 you have in a way that makes no sense then go out and use it on one of the 100s of possible intractable objects or characters to continue.

Replayed it a few years ago. The writing and story is great but I still needed a walk-through to avoid spending an extremely long time going through obscure combinations.

january 2000, stuck in Grandia. Just past the End of the World, did the shit and fought Gadwin, he joined, and then I just ran the fuck around trying to figure out what to do. This went on for a few days, leveled up a couple times, I even bought the strategy guide which I didn't read before purchasing and didn't help me at all.
You had to click triangle or whatever at some rocks. The rocks signaled you to if you stood by them for a sec. This happens directly next to the last thing you did in the story, I thought I explored the circumference and got it all

The old SNES action RPG Brain Lord had a puzzle where there was a room that had a locked door and 3 buttons on the floor. There was a sign that says "the solution is on the game pad". This motherfucker right here KILLED me when I was a kid. There's one spot where you're given a clue to open a dungeon which I remember being something like "palm trees and eight". What exactly was difficult about that?
You could even make notes on the map.

I was stuck here and had to give up because i thought you had to input the blitz command when Sabin was actually moving goes 'shing!'.

I rented it from blockbuster and later found a save where the guy did Leath river grinding trick and just played from his save.I did not make a copy of it

There's no excuse to be stuck on those buttons for more than a minute unless you're a fucking vegetable.

Got stuck in Onimusha when i was kiddo. Just wandered around castle killing demons left and right and wondered how the fuck im supposed to get through those doors which required upgraded weapons.. Then after three or so hours I realized you can upgrade weapons at save points I literally had billion souls and upped all weapons to max level

Thread is about places where you got stuck.
So either it was difficult or the poster too stupid to figure it out.

When a game, especially a zelda game tells you to not do something, thats supposed to be an obvious hint to do it. Why else would they tell you not to. Something would obviously happen. You're fucking silly dude.

I had this problem too. I used Deku sticks as weapons and made it all the way through the Lost Woods and to the Forest temple entrance before finding the sword.

That part where you have to close the DS to press the two maps together, I was stuck on that for like 2 hours and it blew my fucking brain

Recently played Chrono Trigger for the first time. Got to the Blackbird and spent like 2 hours trying to find out a way to get into the room with the Epoch, before i caved and looked up a map. Turns out there's a boss on the wing, only i had already been out there, and the boss doesn't appear unless you go to the very bottom left of it. I passed by it once, saw nothing, and kept looking

An affinity mission in Xenoblade chronicles x, near the beginning. the one where you're proving yourself to some jackass. You have to get revenue from a probe or something, and I didn't know how to do it because the game never even MENTIONED how, so I google it. Lo and behold, I find a fucking treasure trove of threads, all basically saying "I'm stuck and can't continue" (bc you can't drop affinity quests). Fuck that mess of a fucking game.
>>

God lads I just played FF7 again a month ago and already feel like replaying it. I love the Midgar part before you get to the world map so much. Atmosphere there is so cool. Love the rest of the game as well.

Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. There's an early level where you have to run down a conveyor belt with giant boxes coming down to block your path. When you get to the end, you hit a wall, and you're supposed to jump on top of a box and ride it to a higher platform. For some reason, I didn't think of that until a friend came over. I don't remember how long I had the game before I actually became a Jedi, but I'm pretty sure I was living in a different house.

The tail laser doesn't even do that much damage, really. There are times that I've played the game and just deliberately activated his counter-attack so I could buttfuck him with Limit Breaks and end the fight faster.

The Boshi Race in Mario RPG is another one of those things, I think. I try to follow the drumbeats in the song and it doesn't work, then I'll try to repeat the rhythm in the tutorial and it doesn't work, then I end up winning somehow and have no clue what I did right.

This game had a sidequest where you had to write your own sheet music and play a song by fucking ear and it wasn't as cryptic as Yo'ster's Isle.

I never used Celes so when I got to World of Ruin everyone got a bit underleveled so I just picked four members to play as (Terra, Locke, Shadow, Mog) since I didn't feel like grinding. Then I got to Kefka's Tower and was at level ~50 with that party and ~30 with everyone else and my gear wasn't good enough to make any of the three separate parties last so I started grinding those T rex monsters in a forest then dropped the game entirely after getting bored. I probably could've figured something out with a guide but I wasn't expecting the three party gimmick to show up again right at the last dungeon and really just wanted to finish the game already so I just got disheartened and never went back to it.

I got stuck at paladin cecil despite knowing what to do because I thought you had to defend, not "do nothing".

I once got stuck on 8 because there are some tricky bosses that you can oneshot with pheonix downs, but I didn't realise they were undead at first. (estar one, mayor on train is easy either way.)
