Bonus: I also find it quite telling when every "idort" will always, without fail, list the PS4 as one of their consoles. You will see people without PC, you will see people without Nintendo machines, you will see people without Xboxes. But the one platform they all have in common is the PS4. I completely gave up on them after the Gamecube.
I don't feel I missed a single thing since then. Not a single game where I thought to myself "damn, I wish I had that Nintendo system so I could play said game". Not.even.once. after the Gamecube. Whereas before the Wii there were literlaly dozens upon dozens of such titles.

Let's be real here. Sony made PS+ turn mandatory for online gaming. Price of PS+ was actually jacked up recently. There is absolutely no backwards compatibility. You can't change your PSN name.

And the PS4 was the best choice anyway. Never forget that Microsoft would have happily sold you a machine that was more expensive, needed to always be online and came bundled with a (slightly improved but still) poor camera. Meanwhile, Nintendo screwed the pooch by failing to secure third party support and continuing to provide a poor online service. Not to mention their gimmicky controller that just became a stumbling block.

Because there wasn't anything really proprietary about it, and third party hardware manufacturers could make dime-a-dozen cheap knockoffs. The trackpad is proprietary and allows Sony to hold a monopoly on controller manufacture where they make bank selling you a $20 piece of hardware for $60.

The lack of backwards compatibility pains me the most. I joined the gaming scene late but I got to play loads of great PS1 games because the PS2 could do it. I switched to a 360 and got to play a couple of Xbox titles that I'd missed out on because of, again, backwards compatibility (I think it was a bit trickier on the 360 but I can't remember how). Now I have a PS4 that's completely cut off from the previous Playstations. I have to keep my ancient PS2 around and pick up a PS3 if I want access to the backlog. It's not the end of the world but it sucks.

Sony gradually learned from the mistakes with the PS3 (as personified by the rebranding of the entire Playstation product line with the release of the PS3 Slim) and made sure to not repeat them with the PS4. Aside from the obvious outdated specs, they did most of what they needed to do right up until launch where as Microsoft didn't

I too want BC on PS4, I want to play the wealth of PS1 jrpgs I already bought on my PSN on my PS4 but I know Sony isn't going to play their BC card until they have absolutely have to or until next generation as incentive.

One thing I've come to understand is these companies aren't for games, they are for profit machines that only gives us BC when they need to make money or try and redeem themselves like in Xbox's case, I mean even Nintendo is holding that card in their deck for the Switch waiting to play it at the right time instead of just giving it to us. They are working with publishers who wants us to buy all their new shit as well but I'd wish they'd understand we can buy their new games AND old games too, I just want to fucking play PS1 and PSP jrpgs on my fucking console, it's just not the same experience playing them on PC. It literally doesn't feel right and I just find myself alt tabbing a lot.
