-I would capture several of the beedrills from Viridian Forest both as a hedge against any previous bad matchup with posion moves and laugh at any of Team Rocket's future attempts to ambush me since I have relatively good poison types to laugh off Ekans and Koffing counter them.
-I would KEEP MY GODDAMN BUTTERFREE both since confusion is powerful, and the other myriod of status ailments
-Primeape too.
-Get a Garydos. Ash comes across wild ones and Pikachu should be more than enough but all of the other pokemon I'm sure to have before then I'll just grind about it.
-If the games corner still has it; get an Abra.
-Catch Magmar or any other firetype on Cinabar
-Find a good training ground for all of these pokemon. Or re-challenge gyms since that's permitted.

Most importantly; I would carry at least 4 potions.

If we're talking Yellow rules, I'd absolutely gun it for Articuno once I was strong enough to catch it. Blizzard and Sky Attack were absolutely horseshit back then, add in Reflect and Toxic for laughs. Tauros was great so that'd be in, I'd keep the Pikachu and round the team out with Seadra, Gengar and Exeggutor, since we're restricted to Kanto to start.

Did I wake up early, or did I still get Pikachu? Either way is fine, since if I follow Season 1 to a T, I get all three anyway. Since I'm not a fucking pushover like Ash, Charmleon would actually obey me. I would ditch Butterfree as soon as possible, get a fucking Nidoran, make sure to secure a Moonstone from Mount Moon and evolve to Nidoking as soon as possible. Get Ice Beam when I was in Celedon and then just proceed to wipe the shit out of everything. As long as I finish my gym battles with enough time, then I would have plenty of time to actually find and capture good pokemon for the League, instead of fucking using a Krabby in the opening round and getting lucky. I would also have killed Jessie and James to prevent further theft, thus making sure I was fresh for the fight against Ritchi and I would have a ground pokemon to throw against his Pikachu so he couldn't do shit. From there it is wild card as you don't know anything about what is going to happen.

Yeah, Ash releasing Charizard was a bad move, even if Charizard never obeyed him (put him in the PC), and keep freakin' Butterfree, especially since he released him so early in the series. In the game, Butterfree is pretty useless toward the end but if you can evolve up your Caterpie before, say, Vermilion City, you have a decent Psychic Pokémon team on your team already. He also got a bunch of Tauros in the Safari Zone (which you never saw him get because that episode was never released in the States), which would be good for trading.
