I don't think adapting Metal Gear Solid into a movie is very hard given that you can just copy the five or so best things about it from the game, it's just a question of how these things are adapted to kino format.

How do you remake an atmosphere of a frozen, silent base in the middle of nowhere Alaska with these iconic fucking PS1 visuals? How do you find an actor who is even half as fucking badass and testosterone packed as whatever Shinkawa's art/Otsuka's and Hayter's voices were able to produce, not to mention Liquid Snake, Gray Fox, Sniper Wolf, Vulkan Raven, Revolver Ocelot, etc? Each of characters is fucking I C O N I C. Not to mention that MGS straight up stole characters from movies in the first place, like Campbell, so it's a clusterfuck too.
How do you deal with the fact that the entire game is just a grumpy bloke going from one end of the base to the other while fucking shit up (and having obvious boss fights) without it feeling too made up and gamey? How do you potray Snake's and Liquid's problems about genes without them being too retarded?

It will be doubly ironic though that Metal Gear, a series that's essentially one gigantic clusterfuck of homages and straight up stealing from movies, won't work as a movie.

Honestly I think Vogt Roberts can definitely pull it off considering Skull Island and how much it was dripping with style, if he can use that and nail the aesthetic of Shadow Moses and besides that not have a completely straight adaptation, but a very faithful one, I think it would easily be regarded as the best video game movie. Maybe not a classic, but memorable.
