ITT: Books with settings/worlds that would make a good game
The black company
He never sleeps. He says he will never die.

Apparently Bungie's "Myth" was based on The Black Company.
no idea how it would work
As written and developed by CDPR.
Honestly, I'm not even fucking fan of the books but the match between the tone, themes, writing, and CDPR's track record is just too good.

CDPR did manage to turn a garbage plagiarist's work into something good after all
>>386588050
Because that isn't an incredibly stale, five or six years old bait...
>>386586162

Because Gerry Sue isn't blatantly ripped from Elric of Melinbone
it's like you can't recognize patterns like a basic human
>>386588173
Not him but the Witcher is awful desu. Maybe it reads better in polish, but in English it's dull
>>386588502
oh the books are hot garbage, but the point was that CDPR was able to turn it into something better

You are really desperate to milk this shit, aren't you?
This is so sad I'm giving you the (You)'s just out of pity.

As someone who read what is generally considered to be the best translation (and being culturally close enough to Poland to get majority of the historical in-jokes and references):
The books are completely silly and from a literal perspective an absolute mess, but they are fun as hell. Language, dialogues and amusing characters carry them most of the way, and even later on when they tend to get a bit too serious, there is some pretty good iconography in them.
The short stories are where the best stuff lies though.
That said, it's genre fiction in it's silliest, purest form. You can't expect anything in any way actually serious or meaningful from it - that is like expecting something serious out of a scooby-doo cartoon.

You know there are already games based on this ?
They areok
shadowrun doesn't count.
>>386589382
I pressume it's some lower-budget probably mostly Russia-only stuff, right?

>tfw the game is official vaporware

>tfw you made a mistborn vaporware post not more than an hour or two ago and nobody said shit

Yes, more Dune please. Plenty of room to make it less like the film. I'm still up for it being RTS though. Maybe the new film will create new interest.
This reminds me how your stomach isn't IN your body. You havea giant hole through your body like a donut.
The Old Kingdom/Ahborsen series could be neat video games if done right. An Ahborsen is a special kind of "good" necromancer that uses magic bells and a sword to bind and control the undead and banish them. There are two kinds of magic, Charter and Free Magic, that could make neat specialized spell schools.
It was a fun young adult series I loved in elementary/middle school.

It still holds up well as an adult too.
a game about depression

Comfy earthsea games where you travel Your boat and fish while learning the true names.
>>386590352
Really? That's awesome, I thought about reading them again soon. They weren't very long or heavy. While googling for an image I learned there are newer books and short stories. Have you read any of those?
The Culture, it would be about liberating the shit out of barbarian civilizations, possibly by sending T-1000s to peacefully murder all their leaders
>>386590746
>tfw tried to read Earthsea recently and just couldn't get into it
It's well written but also kind of boring. I guess it's a YA novel, after all.
>>386590769
I've only read the original trilogy myself, and read it as recently as last year. I wasn't interested in the short story or two, and the newest book--Clariel--seems to be a 'boring' prequel that wasn't too enticing although I forget the reasons why. I want to say something about forced romance? Of course, YMMV.

there already is a wheel of time game, the tutorial is the test to become an accepted. its a 90's fps.
