In retrospective, DmC was probably one of the best slasher games i've ever played. The story made sense for once and was kind of fun, edgy and obviously not to be taken seriously but still had actual plot, kind of like the Evil Dead trilogy.

The gameplay felt so fresh and new, i was so glad we got rid of those archaic bullshitty RE-scraps mechanics of ye old DMC.
The music was another thing entirely, it sounded awesome, Noisia and Combichrist did a really good job and it fit the game very well.

One thing i'd say is that obviously the original design they unveiled at E3 that prompted all the hate because "hurr durr how could dante ever smoke" was much much better than what they went with in the end, it's kind of a shame that shit-com pressured Ninja Theory to abandon their vision to appeal the fans and ended up doing neither their vision not appealing any fans and overall giving the game a bad rep which in turn caused the low sales.

I have not played DMC.
But for the few things I have seeing in cinematics and trying to deduce common sense.

This DMC Donte is suppose to start like an asshole that care about nothing and thinks is to cool for everybody, but then learn and mature so at the end of the game isnt the same kind of asshole he was at the start...

It's more cohesively designed, it's more well-constructed and polished, it's more challenging, it has much better enemy and level design, and it gives the player more interesting moves to play around with. It was alright but nothing beyond that. It honestly felt like a different genetic game with a DMC label slapped on. It had some neat ideas (level design, angel/devil weapons) but it felt disjointed. Seriously, it felt like the level designers, monster designers, character designers and writers lived in separate realities because nothing seemed to work with anything. Why are the demons weirdo fucking dolls or wolves if they're going for "They Live"? Why is the final boss some dude in a suit if you're going for transforming, psychodelic levels?

The lack of lock-on, the average story and many other faults made this game even less enjoyable than it could be, really. It's not "OMG WORST GAME EVER REEEE" like some people think but it did put an end to DMC for a while because Capcom didn't think it through. And it's a shame because I really enjoyed DMC4 and would love to see DMC5.

Maybe they'll learn. But they're a Japanese company so I highly doubt it.

Also now that I think of it, what was with that weird period of Japanese companies outsourcing their games to weird western devs? Capcom did it with DMC and Konami did it with Silent Hill and it ended up being shit. You'd think they'd find better people to do it but apparently they wanted to get it done on the cheap. I bet it was to expand their market to the west but instead they got burned and will probably keep from doing this in the future. Which is a shame, I bet there are SOME potential dev/game-series matchups that could work.

Nah it wasn't bad really, but it had this "bootleg" feel to it, like something they quickly patched up on a low budget which was probably the case, just look at Vergil's design when compared to his dmc3 look.
I mean it's fine, but something's off. I had the same sensation from his intro sequence as well, it was a cool cutscene, but it lacked something.
Also production was outsourced to some jap studio which resulted in the pc port being lackluster with bugs that are also in console versions.
The lady's voice actress change was also disappointing, I guess the couldn't pay the original one.
It just shows how small the funding was.

DMC4's biggest problem was always the repeated use of enemies, levels, and bosses. Dante and Nero are both fun to play as but going through the same levels fighting the same monsters over and over again gets stale. SE, rather than addressing this, just adds more characters to play as, meaning that you have to go through those same levels several times more now. It's understandable why it's like that, since SE had basically no budget and cobbling new characters together from pieces of previous games was probably the cheapest way they could add new meaningful content that fans would enjoy, but it really drives home just little content there is for you to use all those awesome mechanics on.

Also, the new characters just generally aren't very well-balanced for the enemies. They can be fun to play as, but they're also pretty overpowered with very little effort from the player, and sometimes they even feel like they'd fit more in a Musou game than a DMC game. Trish even has some moves from Sengoku Basara if I'm not mistaken.

It is a shame, but ultimately it was a pretty good end result. It was obviously a budget title, but they worked well with what they had and achieved the main objective: show Capcom there is still demand for games on the same style as the previous DMCs.

Don't let our complaints stop you anon, the new characters are still fun to play with and new costumes are a good addition.
But it's a bit underwhelming for a special edition of a 7 years old game. Hell there isn't even any new enemies.

On an unrelated note,I wish there was a scan of the 3,1,4,2 Graphic Arts artbook that came out with english translation.

TamTam went on a tantrum blaming the Devil May Cry fanbase for causing the poor sales of Enslaved. Not that Enslaved was in any sense a critical darling that they were smashing in user reviews. Nor as if they were the target audience and failing to buy the game. But that they were 'stopping the game sales' like they were standing in front of the display shelves at GAME and slapping it out of the hands of people before they could get it to the register.

From then on he was convinced he was the victim of the mean mean fanbase.

Lmao I never saw this one. He's quite the mental gymnast. I also can't get over how he was called the 'Saviour' of DMC when the Saviour in DMC4 was a weapons-grade bullshitter. It was too fitting.
