Resident Evil 7 saved the RE franchise and ages of nothing but shit.
It reminded me of the classic days of survival horror where level design horror atmosphere and fun and scary monster encounters were what mattered most in making a horror game.

Considering that every time I've rated a game, then played it, then found out that my rating was exactly on the money, it's safe to say that my hindsight on the matter is 20/20. I of course make exceptions. If a game is genuinely good I'll give it more slack. But I want you to tell me that the industry deserves that benefit. Tell me right now that Sony, for example, deserves to have every benefit of the doubt when they pull anti-consumer practices like losing your credit card information, arbitrarily raising the price of PSN plus, not compensating people for broken consoles, and refusing to fix their netcode for online. I have yet to finish Persona 5 and Horizon: Zero Dawn, but I thought NieR was incredible from start to finish. Last game I enjoyed that much was Dark Souls.

Gravity Rush 2.

The concept for the series has always been basically my dream game, and I fell in love with the first. But it was a little rough around the edges and light on content. So the second game had so much potential and I had so many hopes and expectations going into it I feared I'd overhyped myself. But it lived up to everything I wanted and more and I seriously love it.

Gravity Rush 2 is the closest thing to the perfect game for me. It's so specifically what I want from a game, everything from architecture/world design to music. I love it so much.

Please, tell me how I'm wrong then. I specifically provided evidence that the game is massiively cinematic with cutscene times that would make even Metal Gear look tame in comparison. Probably Persona 5. I didn't play anything else from this year because my rig's too old to run the games and the best console I have is PS3. It's not like I really care anyway, old games give me enough entertainment and there are still alot of classics to complete.

I don't necessarily automatically hate non-linearity. But when I go down to the bottom of the map only to find absolutely nothing, and no way to easily get back up to where I was before... that's where the fun starts getting sucked away. "This is a game about exploration. Except we're going to penalize you for exploring."

I am fine with the flurry rush. Really. The only thing I don't really get is why parrying with a shield was made worse than flurry rushing even though it's harder to execute and much riskier as well.

Pyre was amazing but BOTW was just something else. I doubt it'll be overthrown as my GOTY and a wonderful sendoff to my WiiU.

Gigantic is a lot of fun, way better than Overwatch, shame it's probably going to die.
Nier Automata was top tier for its first section but then I got to 9S and my playtime grinded to a halt.

Yooka Laylee is fun but it misses the mark on what made the Banjo games great frequently. Kirby Blowout Blast is a cheap downloadable game and pretty basic but the EX stages have been surprisingly fun.

I won't have a PS4 until KH3 comes out and the Switch is out of the question until there is a hardware revision. I'm waiting for price drops on Rime, Hollow Knight, and Sundered. And for the rest of them I'm waiting for them to come out. I've mostly been taking the first half of the year to clean up my backlog and I've been doing a good job of it. So thats why my games played is literally on 6 right now.

Would love any PC, 3DS, or Vita recommendations you guys have. WiiU as well but I highly doubt there's anything GOTY worthy being released besides BOTW.
