Some countries Nintendo does business in tax you if you don't use a standard micro USB charging cable for your products, there's a loophole though where you can avoid the tax by not packing a charger, so they started doing that with the 3DS XL. People bought the systems that did this anyways so they started doing it everywhere with the N3DS because it means they can milk an extra fifteen burgers out of you for a charger if you don't have one or want to be able to charge multiple systems at once.

No, why? The only SE N2DS XL is a JP only DQ one. N3DS XL is what gets more of the SE designs since it's more expensive anyway and they know people scalp the shit out of SE nintendo consoles, e.g. the FE Fates one, MH ones, Pikachu, etc. Same thing happened with the 2DS, it got a couple SE models like the ORAS transparent ones, but not much overall compared to the non-budget 3DS models.

I asked every single local retailer and had the Legacy Edition pre-ordered at two online stores. No single local retailer is willing to put a pre-order, because they don't know if they'll even get a copy, and both online pre-orders have been cancelled.

I just said it was a limited release. They never made the normal model widely available or even sold regular faceplates afaik, it was only sold in limited quantities as a SE console, such as the AC one. The english small n3ds is the rarer one but only in non-japanese countries.
Although it's depending on the model if you mean price value. Right now the priciest models are the SE consoles in general. A new, unopened Black Zelda N3DS is almost $500, but only $130 if opened.
The poptart AC XL is $400 unopened, $290 if opened.

Yeah that's why I'm going to try getting a cover for it before I system transfer. Supposedly it doesn't like sweat, and that's why the paint chips easier after a long play session (e.g. if you drop it while playing MH, it'll chip), which is ironic and stupid considering how it's used.

The gloss coating was a mistake to begin with. I spend too much time trying to clean fingerprints off the thing. I don't know why hardware manufacturers think gloss is a good idea for devices that are held in the hand a lot. People's hands are nasty, greasy, sweaty things.
