Nier 1 soundtrack was better than Automata's

I like automata's generic combat theme more than anything from OG nier. However I think in general the original had higher quality songs than it's sequel

Automata simply surpasses original Nier's OST. Better track variety and way more consistent quality, extremely powerful new tracks that rival the tops of Nier's OST (Vague Hope, Bipolar Nightmare, City Ruins Shade, Beautiful Song, Weight of the World/End of YoRHa), way better OST usage inside the game with transitions from instrumental to vocal versions depending on your position inside the location, and it's simply way more thematic, for example it's crazy that War & War uses the same leitmotif as City Ruins despite those two sounding absolutely different.

It also has majestic arranges/callbacks to the themes from the first game that sound absolutely different and arguably better in some cases (Wretched Weaponry, Grandma Destruction).

Both osts are great but you really need to be a mindless hipster sheep to deny that Okabe peaked at Automata despite the fact he considers it his best work. On top of that Automata has an entire album of hacking tracks some of which sound plain better than normal versions like Sound of the End.

NieR loses points for me for how many times it reuses Emil Sacrifice. How a track is implemented in-game is more important than listening to it on YouTube later. Automata has way stronger sound design and its tracks don't wear out their welcome as much as NieR's. Though a lot of it is due to Automata's higher budget and having a more competent developer.

Since it's a nier thread, here's some new things from the Automata novel.

A2 decides to erase Pascal's memory.
It's suggested that A2 didn't previously know that 2B was actually an E model until she fused with 2B's memory and knew how hard it was for her to keep killing 9S over and over…
9S realizes that his body is moving against his will due to the virus toward the end of the fight with A2.
Pod042 and Pod153 state that if they help reconstruct 2B, 9S, and A2 that this would be against their programming since they were tasked with completing the disposal and deletion of all information relating to YoRHa. Pod153 seems reluctant to go along with Pod042's wishes because breaking with protocol would make them outcasts which the other Pods would attempt to destroy, But they somehow attack the Pod network, which essentially turns all the other Pods to their side.

Sometimes the pleb choice is the right one.
But if we exclude that one it's probably the theme park song. It just fits really well and sounds great.
I really can't pick a favorite from the first one though, they all have a fairly similar sound and to really pick one over another just doesn't feel right to me personally.

For better or for worse it's Taro's most out there game.
The core gameplay isn't bad and when it works it can feel good to play but you will be fighting the framerate most of the time, especially if you summon Mikhail.

I only played the two games recently, but I cannot see that other people see in NieR. I think it's a fine game, but its qualities aren't nearly as good as people make them out to be and its flaws aren't nearly as bad. The only things about it that I found really noteworthy were the OST, the little touches it had like Devola singing the Song of the Ancients, the lore and the way it would mix up its genres. The story was nothing special and neither were the characters, it didn't have memorable visuals, having route B be different was cool but the new stuff that came with route B wasn't that amazing. I feel like all you people played a different game to me, because NieR just feels like an average action RPG with a few neat gimmicks and above average writing to me.
