Currently playing through it. The gameplay consists of pretty simple combat and running around matching runes to objects. Other than that the schizo/psycho thing is pretty cool, the lore and story is amazing if you're into norse stuff, the music and sound is top notch.

The art direction is certainly interest, if the plot is good then it just might sort itself out, heck the first Nier is praised so much by fans that admit the gameplay being crap.

At most, it's like Amnesia with very, very rudimentary sword-fighting thrown in: there's a very small variety of enemies, and they don't really attack you in interesting ways. (Combat feels very floaty to me, but there you go.) Your main method of overcoming swarms of enemies - and there *are* swarms of enemies - is that after a certain number of parries, you can slow down / stop time, then you can run around doing tremendous damage to your opponents.

But let me get to the my main beef with the story. And it's a major one.

The ENTIRE adventure takes place in the heroine's head. That's it. That's the big twist. Nothing is real, and the heroine is simply crazy. To elaborate - She is completely delusional. You can basically ignore the entire plot until the end, where Senua's basically in Hell battling the final enemy: At this point, she's *aware* that she's delusional, which means that the final boss isn't especially representative of anything - It's sort of a metaphor for her myriad of problems.

Also, the battle is unwinnable. Effectively, you fight endless hordes of the same enemy types, and you keep fighting until you fall. After that, the final boss chokes Senua to death, and impales her on the Hellblade, 'killing' her. But as it turns out, the Senua you've been playing as is the deluded one: the final boss morphs into Senua's form, and discards her lover's head. Her entire journey has no mystical elements - She's simply coming to terms with her grief.

It's an extended metaphor. Also, the permadeath? It's a lie, the way the entire story is a lie. Senua's not infected with Helrot, she's crazy.

Is there any rape scenes in this game? (particularly https://youtu.be/iAvgHU2lu80?t=241 as I can't tell).
