The DLC is pretty much required though, as it adds levels and the back-half of the game, think of it like LoD was to D2, more an expansion really.

Plus you get new characters, so there's that.

Well, by the DLC I mean Karp, Depths, and Wrath, the others are just cosmetics and characters, which go on sale for like ~20 cents during sales, so I wouldn't recommend buying them at full price.

The game is monotonously boring and shallow.

It's a lot like many arpgs but cut down the available skills to about a quarter.
