Another Episode is pretty fun towards the end but is hard to get through and there isn't enough of the shota boys.
The ending is especially great, with the funniest decision making DR has ever done

2 was better in every way except the motivations for the murders
In 1 you could really see how the situation twisted these people, your friends into murderers. In 2 the end of first case tried to fucking guilttrip us for one of the worst fucking characters. The second one was pretty good but 3 and 4 had WAY to much Monokuma involvement, like really? "Kill someone or you all starve to death" that's not a manipulation of people to prove the power of despair, that's just the same as putting a gun to someones head, telling them to kill and acting like they're a murder. But still case 5 is fucking GOAT

If you're open to a the action gameplay style, and want to learn and see more about the DR1 cast (and to a degree, the some of the DR2 cast) then yeah. The pacing is a bit off due to being a action game and having a lot of moments that aren't action game scenes if you grab certain documents, but it's fun. It controls a lot better on the HD version, compared to the original so if you do play it, go for that one.

No, DRv3 is completely separate from the HPA Arc of the series, but Kaede might be in its version of school mode, but don't quote me on that.

I'd say to just not watch any of the animes. DR The Animation is a really bad adaptation of the first game, DR2.5 shits on the story of DR2, and DR3 shits on everything. Just beat DR1, 2 and AE and just make up your own ending, it's probably better than the shit in DR2.5 and 3.
DRv3 is a separate entity as I have explained, but the school mode has characters from past games

The majority of characters in 1 were unlikable as fuck, they were either annoying or just plain stupid with their decision making on matters
Hagakure and Fukawa pissed me off so much in the first game for just being the biggest nuisances in the trials, not contributing is fine but actually elongating the trial with stupid bullshit like ghosts and just wrong facts when you clearly have the correct answer n hand was unnecessary
In 2 almost everyone contributed to getting out, working together, offering believable possibilities on the matters of a case instead of just being retarded, and just an overall sense of a bond among the characters
I was rooting for the characters because they made me care about them, in 1 I didn't give a shit about anyone because they all acted like retarded assholes the whole time

Danganronpa is like a great monument.

DR1 is the foundation, it's boring by itself but necessary to support the rest of the series.
DR2 is the statue, the main appeal of the monument. It's where the true beauty of the whole series shines over the world.
