The memory vaults are the reason why I wonder. Sasha's experiences lead to the reasonable conclusion that he's not too into that. And that specific memory of Milla's is just her personal fantasies. So there's not actually that much we see about how Sasha sees her.

I played it for the first time this year. I think it holds up. The overworld exploration is the best part.

The last level is horrible though. Friend and I took turns trying to beat it and tearing our hair out. Really satisfying when its all over but I have to ask, how are you actually supposed to get past the part where you're climbing up around dad? We just realized we could jankily bounce on his head.

I think accidentally tapping into his father's mental sexual imagery of his mother is part of why he's so reserved, but I wouldn't necessarily say that cements how he feels about Milla one way or the other.

A big part of what I liked about the first game was simply finding all the random character and item interactions you get while randomly exploring and talking to people. The puzzles aren't really amazing, but I like that charming adventure game vibe.

This game is a real work of art, not necessarily the best videogame ever made but an unforgettable experience.
Some of it is extraordinary, like the idea that Raz's journey into maturity is consolidating negative memories with his Father and realizing that his fears/problems stem not from what's been done to him but the way he's chosen to perceive it.
There really seems to be much more under the surface when you play it, the themes of mental illness, good and evil, emotional happiness, self-esteem, are all examined in a beautiful juxtaposition of the power of the human brain.

As for it holding up, I played it for the first time about 6 months ago and I had a ton of fun with it. The story is very entertaining. but it is. A good comparison point of levitation is to Yoshi in Mario Galaxy 2. Yoshi is just better at platforming than Mario and can be fun, but there's a reason why your access to Yoshi is restricted only to certain areas and circumstances. It'd be incredibly repetitive and remove most of the depth and strategy in the platforming if you could just use Yoshi in every single level in the game.

I did kind of feel like it trivialized some of the scavenger hunt puzzles back at the campsite. But I still had fun rolling from place to place.

Maybe they'll structure more of the initial game around it for the sequel now that you'll probably have it as a power from the start.

It's a time piece. It has all the characteristics of a second-wave 3D playformer. If you like that kind of game you should play it, but make damn sure you play it on a CRT. These games were designed without input lag and if you try to play them with any at all they feel like shit

i love the world design, the music is pretty great too. standard fare for platforming as far as gameplay wise goes but its fun it's cool and it's unique. they remastered it for xbone & win10 so i'd try it.

i bought the steam version of the game.
but i can't even browse the menu (press esc during game) properly.
some buttons can be clicked with mouse, some can't.
and i even stucked on an option where i can't click anything, can't move selections via keyboard, and can't even quit it by pressing esc or anything.

any solutions to that?

I wish there were more Psychonauts threads that didn't die so quickly
>>
>>386525837
We'll probably have more threads when the second game is closer to completion
I dread what the threads are going to be like if it turns out to be shit, I really hope it's gonna be good

To /v/ anything Tim touches will always be 100% shit.

Anyone had difficulty being able to be able to even see the collectibles?
For some reason my CRT Monitor makes them way easier to spot

Speaking of Psychonauts, how did you guys feel when early-mid 2000s gaming and culture concluded in 2006? Sad? Bittersweet?
>>
>>386527717
Indifferent I guess. I didn't even realize it was happening at the time.

STOP. ALL THOSE GOOD TIMES, GONE.

The CW still showed kids cartoons on saturday mornings? Hell I remember first watching the TMNT Forever movie there, fuck, it was glorious. (Or was it 4kids)
>>
>>386528536
But nobody watched the new Kids WB on the CW, it was not popular and mostly had shitty shows like Johnny Test. So for all intents and purposes, Saturday morning cartoons really died in 2006, popularity-wise.
>>
>>386497468
He sneers, but Psychonauts was a pretty big disappointment sales-wise when it released to the extent that it (alongside Advent Rising) basically killed Majesco.
>>
>>386528670
What about CW4kids? i recall watching that for years, and I swear I've never seen Johnny Test appear.
>>
>>386527717
Excited. Everything felt new and shiny, with consoles doing way, way more than they'd ever done previously. I do miss it now retrospect.
