It's nothing like FF12 or any other FF really. The world is small but the interesting part is how different things happen at different times in different places. NPCs and events have their own schedules, kind of like Majora's Mask if you've ever played that.

It's open world. The combat is not good, and the balance is fucked. Unless you look up a build, you'll probably find yourself getting deep dicked over and over and finding it nearly impossible to progress.

I feel the same way, DMC has tons more depth than any Arkham game but the principle is the same. You can get by perfectly well by abusing the most basic moves over and over again. The fun comes in by employing your full arsenal.

I've only played City so maybe the combat is better in the other games but I found it boring because of the little freedom in what you can do with the combat system. Your melee attacks don't have an actual moveset for you to pick moves from and every enemy type had their designated method of dealing with them.

etc.
The gadgets felt like they were they to give more freedom but they mostly felt useless outside of a few specific scenarios, such as using the electric gun on the hammer enemies. In DMC I can pick between the different moves in my moveset and I'm encouraged to switch moves up by the style gauge. In Arkham city it felt like I was pressing X in rhythm all day, then using bat swarm every time I hit 10x combo.
