Infernape is fine, in my shitty opinion those 3 pictured are actually the best fire starters.
Charizard doesn't have any interesting features outside of Mega Evolution, and I'm probably just sick of seeing him shilled for so long. Typhlosion suffers from that "Gen 2 feel" of looking like a rejected gen 1 mon even though Cyndaquil is adorable. Fennekin starts out cute, but then immediately evolves into an actual blatant furry that doesn't even look like it was an accident.

Litten is alright I guess, good color scheme and Luchawhatever his final form is called is pretty funny.

Steven is whatever I guess but Cynthia was the coolest champion at the time of Diamond and Pearl. Had an actual good team of varied strong Pokemon that actually had a chance to beat you, looked mature and cool, had a nice theme song and was the first chick champion so there was some extra novelty. She's not particularly interesting beyond that, but just by comparison with the others she was the coolest.

I wonder how many of you actually played during Gen 4 and didn't skip it because it wasn't 'in' at the time. Online play made Pokemon go from 'meh' to something that actually had some extended play value. Even if friend codes were still messy business back then the online leaderboards for the various Battle Tower facilities added a lot for me, and suddenly you could get event Pokemon without having to drive to some Toys R Us.

It's not so fun if you try to go back to it now (Platinum excluded, it's got some good extra content), but the same applies tenfold to the GB and GBA games unless your nostalgia goggles are on real tight, but it marked the start of Pokemon becoming something actually playable.

Combusken immediately learns Double Kick upon evolving and FRLG weren't released until AFTER RS to combat the first gym.
Charmander can learn Metal Claw via level in FRLG and ONLY FRLG to compensate for lack of Neutral/Super Effective Moves against Brock.
Monferno immediately learns Mach Punch upon evolving and evolves even sooner than Torchic evolves into Combusken to combat the first gym.
Pignite immediately learns Arm Thrust upon evolving, although it has no real use for it in BW1 until the second gym, but it gets to beat the shit out of the first gym in BW2.

I hate to be Genwun's advocate, but most of the time, they'll usually point out that most of Gen1's pokemon tends to look more realistic and in place with the real world whereas Gen6 tends to be too cartoonish and out of place in real life.

You have stuff in gen 1 like Pikachu and Wigglytuff, which are cuter and more round/simple, vs stuff like Nidoking and Gyarados, which are more complex and badass looking. They're all Pokemon, but they could probably exist in two different series, the former in a cutesy kid's show and the latter in something trying to appeal more to boys like Digimon. This kind of variety is not exclusive to newer generations.
