It will be revealed along with Portal 3 and a new IP during Steam Dev Days 2017
>valve will never make a game again and focus on VR shit
feels bad man
3 VR games confirmed for steam dev days 2017
Probable that it is L4D3, HLVR, and something new
Come back in ten years
It'll never be released, and if it is, it'll be bad.
NEVER EVER.
Feels bad :(

It's dead, Jim.
VR is more than a gimmick. Anyone saying otherwise hasn't truly tried it

All the writers left, so either we'll see it by the end of the year or its cancelled once and for all.

When is Dev Days 2017?
>>386483390
Oct 12, took just 3 seconds to google it
Gaben did an AMA where he confirmed three "full" AAA VR games in development at Valve, using both Source 2 and Unity, at least one of which is set in the Half-Life universe.
'Leaks' (mostly obviously deliberately disclosures, which Valve has long-ago confirmed they like to do to get community feedback with no commitments) prior and since have given us some pretty good hints of what to expect - 'HLVR' (which may be 'Episode 3'/'Half-Life 3' or may be a spin-off), 'L4D3', and possibly a seated-experience cockpit-based VR game.
At last Octobers Steam Dev Days event they stated they would formally reveal these games 'in the next year'. They will probably only be revealed once they are significantly or totally complete and ready to ship, with a minimal lead-time just for non-development reasons (marketing).

>VR games
>implying they will be VR exclusive
don't be an idiot

I could only find the date for 2016's
What's so good about HL anyway? Spent my entire childhood playing a shitty online fighting game, so I skipped it.

how about you try it yourself instead of asking stupid questions?

Nowhere did I imply that. L4D3 at least will almost sure be a VR/flat crossplay game. Personally I suspect 'HLVR' may be Valves own solution for adding VR support to existing first-p first-person Source 1 engine games (probably by porting to Source 2), and so arguably not a 'new game' at all.
It is the same acronym they used to use for their Source-engine VR support, and which a very successful community project adopted after Valve themselves abandoned it (deciding that older games weren't suitable). I think the way VR gaming has developed since then has disproven that notion, and the demand for eg. HL2 in VR is definitely still there.

Alright, will do.
Even if you halve the time until HL3 is released every millisecond you'll never live to see it live regardless.
