how do most of the games play? do you actually control the beyblade or do they just have stats you could tweak and then its all random after that?

I've only played the ps1 game. In that the beys have stats and you can upgrade it by parts. The actual game is self is just holding a button to "let it rip" then watching them spin around for a minutes. It's not very fun

But that's wrong, you can control the bey with the d-pad, and you could also press some button to unleash the bey beast.

You have to press a button at the right time to get a good amount of spin, you can control it a little bit with the dpad, and I think you press some button when you collide for a bigger impact. There's the bit beast button and a you can also evade when someone uses the bit beast.
