The difference is TF2 is only competitive if you want it to be, you can play it for years and never enter a truly competitive game if you don't want to. The way Blizzard does things, everything is tourney-tier competitive from the ground up, and not everybody wants to deal with that shit 24/7. This. People overlook CS's economy mechanics far too often. It's about a lot more than the maps and the strats, the entire future of a match can be determined in one round as the economic element gives CS a sort of persistence across an entire set of rounds that in most games are totally disconnected. The economic aspect is probably the reason CS has such immense longevity, it makes it so that you can play thousands of matches on a single map and none of them will be the same, because the economy of every match is going to be vastly different.

First of all, that doesn't say concurent players, that says registered users he article that faggot conveniently left the date out for was from over a year ago. When Taken King came out and the entire game system got an overhaul with 2.0. There were definitely 30 mill because literally everyone came back due to the game finally being a game and not a glorified beta.

Now its nowhere near that number, and ofcourse its not. The last content update was in March with the free Age of Triumph expansion which added a new tier difficulty for all existing raids and some new gear, basically a couple weeks worth of content, and destiny 2 is coming out in four weeks, most people are done with Destiny 1 for good now. The current playerbase is just a bit over 300k.

I think the moba fanbase is becoming increasingly disenchanted with the amount of time and effort that needs to be given in order to gain satisfaction from the game.
This disparity between amount of time/effort and satisfaction is becoming larger every year as more and more games are being released without much smaller imbalances between time/effort and satisfaction. 2) Check Steam stats. A games have 40k+ players at start, then it drops to 10k within weeks.

The problem with hero shooters is that it removes the fun part of shooters (movement, killstreaks, feeling the impact of weapons in-game, camera resembles human vision, etc) and the fun parts of mobas (RPG-like mechanics like leveling up, buying objects, using CC for efficient killing, overview camera like in RPGs and RTSs), leaving annoying disables and stuns on a genre focused on mobility instead of visibility, taking away adrenaline-pumping moments, fun teamplay and huge maps to explore and exploit in favor of snail paced gameplay and strategies, and streamlined map design focused on a few shitty chokepoints. The actual card game has tons of imbalance hence why there's a huge banned card list for tournaments and events. It's not that imbalanced if you're playing with competitive ruleset.

Duel Links is a lot more balanced because it doesn't have all the OP cards and there's a banned list too for competetive. But like all card games there's pay 2 win elements to it if you manage to figure out a new meta deck.

Frankly all I think is you're going to see anti-Doomfist offense heroes like Pharah and Sombra get a bump in usage(and Mercy by extension since she and Pharah are joined at the hip).

The issues with OW's very rigid and stale meta are more problems inherent with the game and initial design choices(e.g. Lucio's kit) where things just get shuffled by virtue of someone getting nerfed here or there until we settle on something else that replaces the Tracer/Lucio/DVa/Winston rally.

The International is happening literally right now. THE Dota 2 tournament. Obviously the metrics are still up in the air, but Dota has been notable compared to LoL for how much more diverse the hero usage is at high level play.
