Big Boss (Naked Snake) just wanted war for war's sake. Huey was just along for the ride because BB was nice to him and gave him money. They weren't really fighting oppression, just fighting because it was there, and if it wasn't they'd create it.
Snake and Otacon are closer to the story of Nicola and Bart and their ideology. Ironically MGSV's imaginary theme of Revenge actually fits MGS4 better.
