I loved building comfy walls and food industry in this game, but the warfare was rather underwhelming-either it was too easy to just spam mercenaries in Crusader, or was such a pain in the ass to build a nice army of knights and templars in the previous one with all the steel, horses and wood needed just to get BTFOd by siege machines

Note that you can sell/buy resources while the game is paused. It's ridiculous how many Crusader Trail missions can be cheesed this way. Especially the lesser lords like the Rat or Snake can't handle a rush like this, and will yield resources once they're defeated.

Crusader Trail missions were meant to be cheesed. I dont think you could beat all 50 the normal way. What I usually did was build a mercenary camp and some other buildings in enemy territory where the npc would normally build their important buildings, it was so long ago, I dont remember what buildings I prevented them from building, but I remember that I could beat any enemy this way in less than 5 minutes because their prorgress was basically stunted.
