He doesn't really have one, it defaults to Silver in both Gold and Crystal though so that's generally what people use.

I can't believe he's still the best human character in the main Pokémon games. You'd think someone would be surpassed after 18 years of new games but no, Silver's character development is still the best in the series. Not that it's says much since it's Pokémon, but still.

Houndour being confined to Kanto makes me so fucking mad, but at least I can Daycare grind it and use it for the rest of the game. Misdreavus being confined to Mt. Silver and thus impsossible to actually use in game makes me livid

I never really gave much of a shit about going back to Kanto in these games. When you get there it's cool and all but novelty wears off quickly. There's no real sense of progression and, like mentioned above, the level scaling is ridiculous. I didn't feel like I had actually gone back to Kanto.

Why the hell is this never brought up? This is the reason I can't bring myseld to play GS/HGSS ever again. The leveling is so fucking fucked.

For example, Brock uses level 40+ pokemon, level 50+ in HGSS, and all the catchable shit around him is level 6-12, and the trainers are 19 to 25 (HS) or 20 to 35 (HGSS). This is after you've cleared an entire fucking region and eight gyms.

Its even worse because you can't even grind to make up for the levels, the best spot is in Mt Silver and the pokémon there don't give enough exp, you can't just grind the elite four either because after reaching the postgame they get much stronger, Lance becomes an absolute monster with his pseudos

Lance's team only changes once you have all 16 badges/do the Dragon's Den rematch, pretty sure. Red's team is still dogshit too, you can easily win 30 levels lower. Doesn't make the leveling any better but you dont really NEED level 80+ for him

Fair enough, I wish there was a better grinding spot like in Unova or the VS seeker instead of the match call system, grinding ace trainers in the Sevii Islands was so fast you could quickly get anything to level 40

Before the E4, there's some hidden patch of grass that requires Waterfall near Cianwood that has level 40 pokemon. Decent to grind on. Also, some of the bikers on Cycling Road give great exp if you rematch them, which you can do dozens of times if you do it right.

Every rematchable trainer has a set time each week where they'll constantly rematch you. You just call them, and they agree to a rematch. You just can't call them when you're on their route is all
